42 Days 'Til Daytona - Today's Featured Driver: Chris Buescher

In case you missed it, StatChat is counting down the days ‘til the 2021 Daytona 500.  Every two days, we will have a new article featuring one of the Top 30 Drivers of 2020.

21st Place – Chris Buescher – 645 pts

By the Numbers:

8 Top 10s – Before 2020, the most Top 10s that Chris Buescher had in a single season was 4, a feat he accomplished twice (2017 and 2019).  2020 saw him double his career high, getting 8 Top 10s in his first year with Roush Fenway Racing.

1st Stage Win – Chris Buescher, despite being a one-time race winner, had never won a stage before the 2020 season.  Buescher changed that at the Fall Talladega race, winning Stage One.  While he did win it under caution from a big wreck a few laps earlier, a stage win is a stage win!

0.54% Career Winning % – Out of all active drivers who have won a race, Chris Buescher has the lowest career winning percentage of them all, at 0.54% – or one win in 186 tries.  His sole win came at Pocono in 2016, his first full-time season.

33 – The number 33 actually comes up twice in Chris Buescher’s 2020 stats.  First looking at his place differential – a stat which measures where you start the race vs. where you finish it – Chris Buescher lost 33 spots over the course of the season, an average of -0.92 per race.  33 shows up again in the number of laps Buescher led in 2020, with the majority of them coming between Sept 27 and Oct 4, where he led 25.

9,296 Laps Completed – Chris Buescher finished 93.77% of all laps, which equals 12,884 of the 13,520 miles that were raced over the course of the 2020 season.  That is good enough to rank 14th of all the drivers in 2020, one spot behind Martin Truex Jr.

Chris Buescher will return in 2021 to the Roush Fenway Racing No. 17 Ford, which he took over from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2020.

Coming up in two days – Christopher Bell
