  • Jianna Evaristo Reaches Semifinals at Stampede of Speed

Press Release | SCRAPPERS RACING ENNIS, Texas (October 13, 2024) - Jianna Evaristo raced her Valley Services Scrappers Racing Buell to a stellar semifinal finish today after defeating Ron Tornow and Steve Johnson at the Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex. Her sister, Top Fuel rookie Jasmine Salinas, competed with consistency all weekend long but came up short against Shawn Langdon in the first round of NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series eliminations. Jianna got off to a great start in qualifying, making a speedy pass of 6.838 seconds at 200.40 mph in her first qualifying attempt. On Friday evening, Texas Motorplex pulled out all the stops for their “Battle on the Saddle” which awards the low qualifier on Friday with a special cash bonus. Running a blistering 6.778 at 201.81, Jianna leapt to the No. 1 spot to take her turn on the saddle, but settled in the second position of the evening qualifying extravaganza. Running the second-fastest pass of the session earned her two valuable bonus points. Although she made two more excellent qualifying efforts on Saturday, it was her Friday evening pass that placed her in the No. 4 qualifier spot, marking the ninth time that the up-and-comer has qualified in the top half of the field this year. In the first round of eliminations, Jianna faced No. 13 qualifier Ron Tornow. Jianna powered off the starting line with an extraordinary reaction time of .004 seconds. She kept up that blistering pace to cross the finish line with a 6.895 at 200.76. In the quarterfinals, Jianna faced Steve Johnson. Once again, she cut a spectacular light of .008 seconds while Johnson left a tick too early, turning on the red light and giving Jianna the round win. Jianna lined up against current Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Gaige Herrera in the semifinals. Herrera left first and did not trail for the win. “This bike is performing so well and I feel like things are really coming together,” said Jianna. “It’s not all positive growth and sometimes I fall below the expectations I have for myself. That’s never easy to deal with, but I’m focusing on the positives. My reaction times were great and I’m getting more consistent as a rider, which makes it easier for Matt (Smith, crew chief) to tune the bike for maximum performance.” After struggling in qualifying at the past few events, Jasmine Salinas and her team are encouraged after making solidly consistent passes at Texas Motorplex, where Jasmine has won previously in Top Alcohol Dragster. The Top Fuel rookie made four full runs behind the wheel of her Valley Services Scrappers Racing dragster, showing the team that they are moving in the right direction as they work to finish the season out strong. Her pass of 3.780 seconds at 330.30 mph, made in the heat of the day on Saturday, put her in the No. 13 position on the eliminations ladder. Jasmine faced No. 4 qualifier Shawn Langdon in the first round on Sunday. There was a malfunction with the tree, delaying the lights more than usual. But Jasmine did not let it phase her. The talented Top Fuel rookie held her own against former world champion Langdon, making a gorgeous pass of 3.745 at 326.49, her best-performing run of the weekend. But it was not enough to outpace Langdon’s 3.724 at 332.20. In a post-round interview, Langdon remarked on how impressed he was with Jasmine’s ability to manage an unusually long staging process. “We got the car down the track each time, which is a good step in the right direction,” said Jasmine. “I’m not giving up. If anything, every time I’m behind the wheel of this dragster, I’m more and more sure that this is what I’m meant to do. If determination and drive have anything to do with it, and I think they do, then it’s just going to get better from here.” After a short break in the schedule, the Scrappers Sisters will head out west for the final two events of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series 2024 season. After making a stop in Las Vegas for the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway November 1-3, the team will wrap up the season at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, November 15-17. • Bostick Maintains Countdown Position After Roller-Coaster Weekend In Texas

Press Release | CHRIS BOSTICK MOTORSPORTS ENNIS, Texas (October 13, 2024) - Chris Bostick, rider of the gorgeous Surf Signature RV Resort Suzuki, maintained his Top Ten position in the Countdown to the Championship after an intense weekend of racing at the NHRA Texas FallNationals at Texas Motorplex. The NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle standout made consistent runs throughout the weekend but his race day came to an early end when Angie Smith defeated him the the first round of NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series competition. In the first qualifying session of the Stampede of Speed, Bostick laid down a solid lap of 6.877 seconds at 197.76 mph. On Friday evening, under the lights and in front of slews of enthusiastic Texas fans, he slowed down a tick, running a 6.90 at 197.06. In the third qualifying opportunity on Saturday, Bostick’s bike would not fire. One of the highlights of Bostick’s weekend happened in the fourth and final qualifying session. He lined up across from her former crew chief and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Richard Gadson. Although it was only a qualifying round, the two were still excited to compete side-by-side. Bostick outpaced Gadson to run his quickest pass of the weekend, an impressive 6.870 at 197.26. “It was a lot of fun to ‘race’ Richard, even if we weren’t in eliminations,” said Bostick. “In many ways, he’s like another son to me, and he is a talented racer. Just look at all he’s accomplished in his rookie season. So it feels like a real win.” Coming into eliminations on Sunday from the No. 11 qualifier position, Bostick faced No. 6 qualifier Angie Smith. It was a true back-and-forth drag race as the pair battled from start to finish. Smith got the starting line advantage but Bostick got in front of her early in the run, keeping the lead until halfway down the track when Smith pulled in front to turn on the win light. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed,” remarked Bostick. “But it was a great drag race and that’s always what we want to give the fans. I have to remember that I’m still relatively new to full-time, professional competition. And I’m competing with the best motorcycle riders on the planet. Being able to give someone of Angie Smith’s caliber a solid battle to the stripe is pretty exciting. We continue to make small improvements and I hope that will pay off in big ways. Bostick’s Surf Suzuki will return to the White Alligator Racing shop in Florida before heading out west for the final two events of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series 2024 season. • Week 31 - StatChat Power Rankings After Talladega

By Adam Carabine Even as the Cup Series rolls along, and drivers get eliminated, the StatChat Power Rankings will continue to rank all 16 Playoff Drivers.  Rankings are determined using a large number of statistical inputs, with most emphasis on the last 5 races   Harrison Burton – This week: 16th – Last week: 16th It wasn’t looking like a terrible day for Burton at Talladega until the Biggest Big One of all Big Ones Ever happened.  Burton got collected in it and finished with a DNF.   Tyler Reddick – This week: 15th – Last week: 15th Lucky for Reddick, his playoff point cushion over the others due to being the Regular Season Champ looks like it’s put him in a decent spot entering the Charlotte Roval this weekend.  +14 to the cutline isn’t anywhere near safe, but he does well at road courses, so he should be okay to make it to the next round.   Daniel Suarez – This week: 14th – Last week: 12th It’s not been a great second round for Suarez.  And to be fair, not all of it has really been his fault.  I suppose a P13 at Kansas was respectable enough, but not when you come in quite a bit below the cutline.  An early incident at Talladega pretty much ruined his day.  He’s 20 points below the cutline ahead of a tough road course.  He’ll need a stellar day to move on to the next round.   Chase Briscoe – This week: 13th – Last week: 14th Briscoe is in the worst position of any remaining playoff driver when it comes to the cutline.  He’s -32 with one race remaining, which puts him pretty much in must-win territory.  He’s come up clutch already once this season, and he’s pretty good at road courses – it’s possible but I’m not seeing it.   Ryan Blaney – This week: 12th – Last week: 8th Another rough day for Ryan Blaney, as he gets wrecked out halfway through the race at Talladega. He was pretty choked at Alex Bowman after his hard push sent him into Ross Chastain and into the wall.  He’s still +25 to the line, so he’s likely okay into the next round, but the defending champ will need to stay safe throughout the race.   Ty Gibbs – This week: 11th – Last week: 9th Gibbs sits in the not-so-enviable 13th position in the season standings, showing that he’s the “best of the rest.”  He’s still searching for that first career Cup win, but he has certainly shown he belongs.  He’s got more points than veterans Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski.    Joey Logano – This week: 10th – Last week: 7th Also caught up in the greatest Big One of all time (or worst, if you ask Joey), Logano finds himself in a bit of a hole coming into the Charlotte Roval next weekend.  -13 to the cut line, he’ll need to perform well in order to race his way in.  Luckily he’s got a solid record at the Roval – 4th overall of all Cup drivers.   Brad Keselowski – This week: 9th  – Last week: 13th  It was another example of a Chevrolet just edging out an RFK Ford in a photo finish at a Super Speedway this past weekend.  This time it was Ricky Stenhouse Jr. doing it to owner/driver Brad Keselowski.  While he’s also out of the playoffs now, his veteran experience showed why he’s so dangerous at these drafting tracks.   Austin Cindric – This week: 8th – Last week: 10th For much of the race at Talladega, Cindric looked like the car to beat.  Unfortunately he got taken out by a poorly timed push from Brad Keselowski, leading to the biggest of all Big Ones.  He’s -28 to the cutline, but for some reason I feel like he could still earn his way into the next round – he’s been showing some resolve lately.   Martin Truex Jr. – This week: 7th – Last week: 11th One of the benefactors of being behind the main pack as the gigantic Big One happened, Martin Truex Jr. managed to eke out a P11 at Talladega despite spinning out entering pit road earlier in the race.  MTJ is still hopeful he can get the final win of his career in the remaining 5 races – does it happen?   William Byron – This week: 6th – Last week: 6th Byron is the lone playoff driver locked into the next round on points, and frankly he’s earned it.  A P2 and P3 in the second round so far – he’s somehow taken the pressure off himself and his team in the most wildcard of playoff rounds on the NASCAR schedule.  He’ll breeze his way through the Roval and focus on the next round.   Denny Hamlin – This week: 5th – Last week: 4th Similar to Martin Truex Jr., Hamlin was lucky to finish where he did at Talladega.  There’s a lot of talk over whether this might be a cornerstone moment for Denny en route to his first ever championship.  I’m not ready to buy in just yet, but at +30 he looks like a safe enough bet to make the next round at least.   Alex Bowman – This week: 4th – Last week: 5th Another playoff race, another Top 20 for Bowman.  Maybe Mr. Hendrick will have to start only giving Bowman 1-year deals from now on, just to keep him on the hot seat.  +26 at the Roval, he’s not entirely safe, but with the momentum this team has, I’d be shocked if he didn’t make it to the Round of 8.   Chase Elliott – This week: 3rd – Last week: 3rd Elliott also got caught up in that giant wreckfest, though who didn’t?  He’s been pretty solid at the Charlotte Roval – he is the winningest driver there after all – but he’ll need to have a nice consistent day to make it to Round 3, as he’s +13 with one race to go.   Christopher Bell – This week: 2nd – Last week: 2nd Through 5 playoff races, Bell still has only had one finish outside of the Top 10.  That is crazy.  He’s +57 to the cutline (basically a shoo-in at this point), and his team looks ready to propel him to his third straight Championship 4 in a row.   Kyle Larson – This week: 1st – Last week: 1st It was a little touch and go there, but Larson managed a P4 at Talladega, his best ever Super Speedway finish.  Larson’s also basically guaranteed a spot in the next round since he’s +52 to the cut line.  However, if anyone could fall 52 points in a single race, it might be Larson, as he does have a tendency to shoot himself in the foot.

  • Erik Jones Foundation Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Press Release | THE ERIK JONES FOUNDATION The Erik Jones Foundation kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month supporting the Charlotte Motor Speedway ‘Paint the Wall Pink’ program and will continue to bring awareness to the disease throughout the month with the ‘Window of Hope’ program at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL on Sunday, October 13. On October 1, Erik Jones and members of the foundation joined Breast Cancer warriors at Charlotte Motor Speedway to not only paint the walls of the speedway pink, but most importantly to promote breast cancer awareness, early detection and support and treatment for all who have been affected by the disease. “I’m really proud to be able to support such a great cause with ‘Paint the Wall Pink’ and the ‘Window of Hope’ programs to support breast cancer awareness,” said Jones. “This cause is one that is personal and important to not only myself, but also my foundation. For the second year we will be able to raise important funds for breast cancer screenings through our ‘Window of Hope’ program and help directly impact the lives of so many people. It’s important that we continue to raise awareness and encourage regular breast cancer screenings, as well as support those fighting this disease and offer support and strength together.” Throughout the month of October, the Erik Jones Foundation will continue to support Breast Cancer Awareness by proving education on the importance of early detection and care, as well as supporting survivors, current fighters, and families of breast cancer patients. For the second year in a row, the Erik Jones Foundation will host the ‘Window of Hope’ program at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This program features pink window nets, manufactured and donated by Thermal Control Products, on every Cup Series car entered in to the ROVAL race on October 13. Following the race weekend, the race used window nets will be signed by each driver and auctioned off to raise funds for breast cancer screenings and detection. “The ‘Window of Hope’ program is truly amazing for so many reasons,” said Brent Nickola, Executive Director of the Erik Jones Foundation. “First, the window nets are so prominent during the race that we know we are raising awareness of the issue. Secondly, the program allows fans to support the cause and walk away with a cool item. I am probably most excited to see how the entire NASCAR industry has embraced the program this year.” The ‘Window of Hope’ pink window nets can be bid on at www.erikjonesfoundation.org starting October 14 through October 21, 2024. Our racing community has stuck by Firebird through some very uncertain times over the past few years, and we cannot wait to take this momentum into 2025 and reward them with great events for years to come.”  Renamed Firebird Motorsports Park a year ago, the historic facility enjoyed a memorable grand re-opening last year, with the name referencing back to Firebird International Raceway, the original name of the facility, from 40 years ago. After an outpouring of support from the racing community in the Phoenix area hoping to see NHRA drag racing remain at the facility, the Gila River Indian Community was proactive in its efforts to keep racing at the track, continuing one of the hallmark events on the NHRA tour. The Arizona Nationals has consistently attracted sellout crowds thanks to its strong local fanbase and enjoyed sellout days on both Saturday and Sunday at the 2024 event. Over the years, the event has become a must-see race for any NHRA fan, delivering record performances and incredible early-season action.   “It is extremely exciting to announce not only a return to Firebird Motorsports Park, but also a long-term extension for the NHRA Arizona Nationals at the historic facility,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. “The amazing work from the NHRA fans, the track and the Gila River Indian Community will continue to keep NHRA drag racing in the area for years to come. Last year was a tremendous event with a reimagining of racing at Firebird Motorsports Park, and we’re eager to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the NHRA Arizona Nationals next season, as well as events well into the future.”   The race first became a Southwest fixture in 1985 and will continue its status as a fan-favorite during the 40th anniversary season in 2025.
