  • Greg Van Alst and Team Seek Pocono Raceway Redemption

LONG POND, Pa.: Greg Van Alst and his Anderson, Indiana-based ARCA Menards Series team return to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway focused on redemption in Friday’s General Tire Delivers 200. Last year at the 2.5-mile triangle, Van Alst had hoped to capitalize on a strong day of testing in hopes of making his debut at the “Tricky Triangle” a successful one, however, an accident in practice forced the team to withdraw from the race and sit on the sidelines for the first time in his ARCA career. Returning to the Long Pond race track nearly a year later, Van Alst is feeling comfortable about his return and eyeing his sixth top-10 of the ARCA Menards Series season Friday night. “I try not to think about last year at Pocono, because it was such a disappointment for my team,” explained Van Alst. “I have learned a lot about what happened though and have learned even more about myself and being a better ARCA Menards Series driver – so I’m upbeat about returning to Pocono and finishing what we started in 2021.” After delivering a respectable top-15 finish in his ARCA Menards Series road course debut earlier this month at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Van Alst is ready to return to the oval for the next three weeks and propelling his family-owned team forward and continue his climb in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings. “I learned a lot at Mid-Ohio, especially about racing in the rain,” recalled Van Alst. “Without a doubt, leaving Mid-Ohio with our race car intact and inhaling a lot of road course experience firsthand will prove to be beneficial for Watkins Glen next month. “Before Watkins Glen though. We are focused on Pocono.” Van Alst will join a majority of the ARCA Menards Series competitors for an open test session on Thursday where he hopes to dial in his No. 35 CB Fabricating Ford Fusion in hopes of capturing his second top-five result of 2022. “Any chance we can take advantage of track time before the actual race weekend begins is a huge benefit,” he added. “I was really happy with the performance of our car during the test last year, but this year we have a similar strategy but also a gameplan to see if we can’t be even faster than we were last summer. “We ended our five-race consecutive top-10 streak at Mid-Ohio a couple of weeks ago, so I’d like to reset that streak with our best finish of the season on Friday.” Chris Barkdull’s CB Fabricating, a longtime partner with Greg Van Alst Motorsports has boosted its commitment to the team and will continue its role as the primary marketing partner of Van Alst’s No. 35 Ford Fusion. Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly. Their 26,000-square-foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures, and much more. “We are reaching the halfway point of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season and the consistency we have shown over the last two months is the type of pace that will keep Chris and everyone on this team in it for the long haul,” expressed Van Alst. “We have even bigger goals that we’d like to conquer in the second half of the season and I know that keeps Chris and I excited about the path and longevity of our team. “With every race complete, it’s a small victory for our team knowing the large mountain that is still left to climb. I’m thankful to have the support of Chris and CB Fabricating.” In addition to CB Fabricating, Top Choice Fence, Norton Transport, KRJ Race Products and Lintz Creative will serve as associate marketing partners for Van Alst’s 21st career ARCA start. Entering Pocono, Van Alst sits a career-high fifth in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings, three points out of fourth and 61 markers in the arrears to championship leader Rajah Caruth.\ “Step by step and with a little luck, I hope we will soon find ourselves a part of the championship picture,” sounded Van Alst. “While top-10 finishes are strong efforts for us, we need to be competing for top-five runs on a consistent basis to have any shot at the championship. This is a tough series and we are still proud of where we are at. “We still stay focused.” For more on Greg Van Alst and Greg Van Alst Motorsports, please visit GregVanAlst.com, like them on Facebook (Van Alst Motorsports) and follow him on Twitter (@GregVanAlst35). • Christian Rose and Team Look to Deliver in Pocono Raceway Debut

LONG POND, Pa: It cannot be argued that Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have experienced their fair share of hardships in the ARCA Menards Series this season, but the team is hoping to leave all their back luck in the rearview mirror and capture their best finish of the season in Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. There’s been little doubt that ARCA Menards Series rookie Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have showcased speed while competing in all three of ARCA’s national divisions, but Rose is ready to back up that speed with a satisfying finish that will propel him forward during his second half stretch of the 2022 season. While some of the forks in the road have been eased with a pair of top-10 finishes, Rose is hoping to utilize the summer stretch to deliver his Mooresville, N.C.-based team with some welcomed momentum and consistency aboard his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS. “I am looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend at Pocono,” said Rose. “We had such a fast car earlier this month in Irwindale but unfortunately got wiped out in an accident which left us with another race where we had speed but the not result to show it. “Pocono essentially kicks off our second half of the 2022 season and I’m looking forward to using the rest of the races to not only help strengthen build my racing resume but put some results on the board for my Cook Racing Technologies team. “I know Pocono is going to be a challenge, but it’s a challenge I gladly accept. I can’t wait to get there.” To help prepare Rose for his fourth premier ARCA Menards Series start of the season, he will join his competitors in an open test session at the 2.5-mile triangle where he hopes to perfectly dial in his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS ahead of race day. “I am extremely thankful for any seat time but having an open test day before the day of the race I can only see it being a win-win for us,” added Rose. “It is important for us to make gains with the handling and keep improving our lap times on Thursday and keep heading in the right direction on Friday. “I think it is going to be a very competitive race, so it’s just crucial to get our team in a good place for qualifying and thrive during the race. A top-10 would be a great effort for my debut at Pocono. A top-five or better would certainly feel like a win. “Nothing but positive vibes though from myself and our team marching to Pocono and looking ahead.” Pocono will be the first race for Rose as a husband as he and his girlfriend Brooke tied the knot in western North Carolina two weeks ago. “Life has been a journey of ups and downs,” sounded Rose. “I had no idea when I moved to Charlotte to chase my dream the best thing to ever happen to me would be waiting on me. “Brooke stole my heart on night one and I still get butterflies every time I see her. I’m a lucky guy.” This season, Rose who will compete in all three of ARCA’s national platforms, the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series East and the ARCA Menards Series West will continue to strengthen a relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism . The West Virginia Department of Tourism promotes West Virginia as a leading four-season travel destination and a top state to live, work and retire. Known as the Mountain State, West Virginia is one of the most scenic states in the United States and home to thousands of acres of parks and public lands, including America’s newest national park and 45 state parks and forests. In addition to its majestic mountains and rolling hills, West Virginia is full of rich historic sites, enchanting art galleries, charming towns and an immense sense of belonging found only in its heaven-like landscapes. In West Virginia, let country roads lead you far away from everything. And a little closer to heaven. “My relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism is everything to me,” added Rose. “Without them, I would not be able to race at Pocono. It is my goal throughout the year to spread the mission of everything the West Virginia Department of Tourism means. “It goes without saying that we have had a lot of speed with our West Virginia Department of Tourism race cars this year and I’m hopeful we can climb that ladder of consistency during the summer stretch. “We are seeing a great amount of response from the fans about their experience in West Virginia and that’s part of why we are building this program. Pocono is another next in the journey and I look forward to proudly representing my home state and continuing my mission.” Following Pocono, Rose will head to Ohio where he will attend the Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins baseball game on Monday, July 25, 2022, where Rose a former professional and award-winning college baseball pitcher will throw out the first pitch of the Major League Baseball game. “I am looking forward to representing the West Virginia Department of Tourism , the ARCA Menards Series and Cook Racing Technologies in Cincinnati next week,” added Rose. “Everyone knows that baseball is my first love and now to combine the two worlds is a dream come true.” Following Pocono, Rose and CRT plan to compete in the ARCA Menards Series event at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on July 29. • NHRA RETURNS TO SEATTLE FOR FIRST TIME IN THREE YEARSFOR FLAV-R-PAC NHRA NORTHWEST NATIONALS

KENT, Wash. (July 19, 2022) – For the first time since 2019, the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series is headed back to Pacific Raceways, as the famed NHRA Western Swing will once again conclude with the 34th annual Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals on July 29-31. It is the 13th of 22 races during the 2022 season and anticipation is high for NHRA’s return to Seattle. Nestled in the Pacific Northwest in the shadow of majestic Mount Rainier and surrounded by horsepower-aiding trees that emit tons of power-enhancing oxygen, Pacific Raceways has provided a terrific backdrop for teams and race fans for more than three decades. After three years away, fans will get the opportunity for another weekend of incredible 11,000-horsepower, 330-mph thrills starting with qualifying action on Friday and Saturday and then eliminations on Sunday. The track has been home to several historic moments over the years, including John Force’s 150th win in 2019, setting the stage for what should be an incredible return to racing in 2022. Austin Prock (Top Fuel), Force (Funny Car) and Matt Hartford (Pro Stock) won the race in 2019, the last time the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series raced at Pacific Raceways. This year’s race will be broadcast on both the FOX broadcast network and Fox Sports 1 (FS1), including live eliminations coverage starting at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 31 on FOX. Prock’s first career victory in the Top Fuel ranks came at Seattle during the 2019 race when he beat four-time defending world champ Steve Torrence in the final round. Prock has become one of the sport’s rising stars and will look to get back in the win column at Pacific Raceways, but victories haven’t come easy in Top Fuel this season. In one of the most competitive years ever in the class, Mike Salinas is the current points leader on the strength of four wins. Other top stars to watch include Brittany Force, a three-time race winner this year, Torrence, Justin Ashley, who has two wins this year, Antron Brown and Tony Schumacher, who each have four wins at Seattle, Denver winner Leah Pruett, Doug Kalitta, and Josh Hart. In Funny Car, Force made history at Pacific Raceways in 2019 with his 150th career win. The 16-time Funny Car world champ enjoyed a memorable celebration after the historic win and the legendary driver returns to Seattle looking for his second win this season and the 10th in his career at the track. Nobody has won more than Force at Seattle but getting another won’t be easy facing off with the likes of teammate and points leader Robert Hight, Tim Wilkerson, who has three wins in Seattle, defending world champ Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, who won the race in 2013, J.R. Todd, Cruz Pedregon, Bob Tasca III, and Alexis DeJoria. Pro Stock’s Hartford had a thrilling moment at the last Seattle race in 2019, knocking off Greg Anderson in the final round to keep the all-time wins leader from sweeping the Western Swing. Hartford has current momentum, too, winning in Denver as his season continues to get on track. He’ll try for another Seattle win against a talented group that includes points leader Erica Enders, who has five wins in 2022, Anderson, who is a win away from his 100th career victory, two-time race winner this season Aaron Stanfield, local native Dallas Glenn, rookie Camrie Caruso, Troy Coughlin Jr., Mason McGaha, and Kyle Koretsky. The event also will feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which includes some of the sport’s top drivers, as well as Street Legal exhibition runs. The race also features the NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League Shootout, with eight young drivers competing for the win. The final round will take place on Sunday and will be featured during the FOX broadcast. The Total Seal Tech Talk Engine Seminar will take place at Matt Hartford's Pro Stock Car Pit at 1 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. For autograph-seeking fans, they can attend an autograph session featuring Toyota drivers that will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Toyota Display. Race fans at Pacific Raceways can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans are invited to congratulate the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals event winners. As always, fans also get an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet in Seattle. This unique opportunity gives fans a unique chance to see teams in action and service their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers, and more. • FUNNY CAR’S ROBERT HIGHT LOOKS TO MAKE HISTORY IN WINE COUNTRY AT DENSO NHRA SONOMA NATIONALS

SONOMA, Calif. (July 19, 2022) – Already on an incredible run this summer during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season, Robert Hight now heads to a track where the Funny Car points leader has enjoyed some of his greatest moments, including a run of three straight victories at Sonoma Raceway. Hight will look to become the first driver in NHRA history to win four straight races in the heart of wine country at this weekend’s 34th annual Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals, and he certainly heads to Sonoma with plenty of momentum. Hight has won two straight races this season in his 11,000-horsepower Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS, taking over the points lead and giving him five wins in 11 races. It’s an impressive stretch and Hight is hungry for more at a track that always seems to treat him well. In addition to his four career wins in Sonoma, the three-time Funny Car world champ also made the fastest run in NHRA history at the track, going 339.87 mph in 2017. That was one of several Hight highlights in Sonoma and he’s looking for another this weekend at the middle race in the famed three-race NHRA Western Swing. “We’ve just got to go here and treat it like we did in Denver and make three really good qualifying runs and race smart,” said Hight, who has 58 career victories. “If we keep doing that, the round wins are going to come, but this class is tough. I think it’s a successful season when you have five wins total with the level of competition here. We’re at the halfway point, but it’s the next 11 races that count. We have to keep working and keep digging. I’d like to get to 60 (career wins) this year. Everything from top to bottom is working right now. We have to stay focused and keep working, and we can only get better.” Steve Torrence (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Aaron Stanfield (Pro Stock) and Karen Stoffer (Pro Stock Motorcycle) won the 2021 event, and this year’s race will be broadcast on both the FOX broadcast network and Fox Sports 1 (FS1), including live eliminations coverage starting at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 24 on FOX. It is the 12th of 22 races during the 2022 season, kicking off a second half of the year Hight hopes is just as successful as the first half. He won nearly half the races in the first 11 events, advancing to seven final rounds in the process. Though there’s a long way to go, Hight’s Denver win opens up the possibility to sweep the Western Swing, something that hasn’t been done since 2009 and only been done once in Funny Car. Hight isn’t ready to think about that, as he’ll have to deal with the likes of Matt Hagan, defending world champ Ron Capps, Cruz Pedregon, Bob Tasca III, who has advanced to back-to-back final rounds this year, Alexis DeJoria, and J.R. Todd. But the veteran standout is thrilled to see how his team has bounced back from a difficult 2021 season, where his Sonoma victory was one of the few highlights. “Last year was very disappointing,” Hight said. “I thought we would pick up right where we left off in 2019 when we were dominant, and it just didn’t happen. But what’s different this year is we’re not changing everything every week. We’ve got a great combination and we’re fine-tuning it, and I think we’re only getting better and more consistent. I don’t feel like we’ve peaked yet, but I also know the competition is getting tougher and we’ve got our work cut out for us. We’re going to keep working hard.” In Top Fuel, Justin Ashley will try to inch closer to points leader Mike Salinas with another solid result on the Western Swing. He advanced to the semifinals in Denver as the team continues to put together a strong season. The young star has put together a pair of wins and has advanced to four final rounds in a loaded Top Fuel class, putting him third in points in his 11,000-horsepower Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Vita C Shot at the halfway mark. He’s only 92 points out of first, but to keep moving up the standings Ashley will have to get past the likes of Salinas, Brittany Force, who has three wins this year, four-time defending Top Fuel champ Steve Torrence, who won last year in Sonoma, Denver winner Leah Pruett, Antron Brown, Josh Hart, and Doug Kalitta. But Ashley has been fueled by constant progress and that has been evident on the track. “I have been talking all season about stacking round wins and making the most out of every round on the track,” Ashley said. “Last weekend was a perfect example of that process. We were able to go more rounds than the drivers in front of us and that has us in an even better position to challenge for the No. 1 spot going into the Countdown. We still have our work cut out for us, but we made progress in Denver. I am looking forward to racing in Sonoma again. Last year we qualified No. 7 and lost a close first-round race. It was a great race, but we want to go rounds in Sonoma this year.” Pro Stock’s Aaron Stanfield drove to the win a year ago, capping off his hot summer stretch with his first Sonoma win. He’s picked up a pair of wins in 2022 to strengthen his championship contender status, but this season has belonged to his teammate, points leader Erica Enders. She has won five times already this year and will look to win in Sonoma for the first time as she aims for a fifth world championship. Top drivers to watch include Greg Anderson, whose six wins at Sonoma are the most in Pro Stock, Kyle Koretsky, Mason McGaha, rookie Camrie Caruso and 2015 winner Chris McGaha. Karen Stoffer picked up her first victory at Sonoma Raceway a year ago and she’s impressed so far in 2022 as well. She made the quickest run in class history en route to her Gatornationals win and Stoffer will look for back-to-back victories in wine country. But trying to stop her are a host of talented riders in the two-wheeled category, including points leader Steve Johnson, defending world champ Matt Smith, Norwalk winner Angelle Sampey, Eddie Krawiec, who has three wins in Sonoma, Angie Smith, Bristol winner Jerry Savoie, Jimmy Underdahl and Joey Gladstone. The event also will feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which includes some of the sport’s top drivers, as well as Top the Cops, Jr. Dragster and Street Legal exhibition runs. For autograph-seeking fans, they can attend an autograph session featuring riders in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the Suzuki Display at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while an autograph session featuring Toyota drivers will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Toyota Display. A special Denso Cornhole Challenge and autograph session will take place at the Denso Display in the Fan Zone at 10 a.m. on Saturday, giving fans a unique interactive opportunity. On Saturday, fans can also attend Nitro School to learn more about how the cars operate and reach their thrilling speeds. Race fans at Sonoma Raceway can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. The final can’t-miss experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans are invited to congratulate the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals event winners. As always, fans also get an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet in Sonoma. This unique opportunity gives fans a unique chance to see teams in action and service their hot rods between rounds, get autographs from their favorite NHRA drivers and more. NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature one round at 6:30 p.m. PT on Friday, July 22 and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, July 23 at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. PT on Sunday, July 24. Television coverage includes qualifying action on FS1 at 9:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, and then eliminations on FOX at 4 p.m. ET Sunday. INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, July 19, 2022) – Jim Cornelison, best known for singing "(Back Home Again in) Indiana" before the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge and performing the national anthem for Chicago Blackhawks’ and Chicago Bears’ games, will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the Gallagher Grand Prix NTT INDYCAR SERIES race Saturday, July 30 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For six consecutive years, Cornelison has stirred Hoosier hearts with his moving rendition of "(Back Home Again in) Indiana" as part of the pre-race ceremony for the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Now, for the first time, he will lend his voice for the national anthem to kick-start the first race of the historic, tripleheader Brickyard Weekend when the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series take on the thrilling 14-turn, 2.439-mile IMS road course during a race weekend steeped in IMS heritage. “The national anthem is an integral, historic part of our pre-race pageantry and tradition,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “As we welcome the NTT INDYCAR SERIES back to IMS for another race on the road course, it’s fitting that Jim, who plays such a pivotal role in one of our Indianapolis 500 pre-race traditions, is also back at the Racing Capital of the World performing for our fans at the track and those watching on NBC.” Since beginning his professional singing career in 1993, Cornelison made his name through performances at opera houses around the world and national anthem performances for professional sports teams in Chicago, including the Bears, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. • Chicago to Host First-Ever NASCAR Cup Series Street Race in 2023

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 19, 2022) – For the first time ever, the sights, sounds and speed of NASCAR are coming to the streets of downtown Chicago on July 1-2, 2023. One of the most iconic cities in the world, Chicago will add another chapter to its illustrious sports history when a NASCAR Cup Series street race debuts against the backdrop of Lake Michigan and Grant Park, televised on NBC. “Like the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, we seized an incredible opportunity to add an unprecedented element to our schedule and take center stage in the heart of another major metropolitan market,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing development and strategy. “This is the ideal setting for the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series street race. The NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen cars and the IMSA machines will race along the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago, marking a truly historic moment for our sport. We are very appreciative of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her team, along with the entire City of Chicago for working with us to make this concept a reality.” The first-ever NASCAR Cup Series street course race will take place on Sunday, July 2, 2023, and will be preceded by an IMSA sanctioned series race, which will run on Saturday, July 1, 2023. The specific IMSA series joining the NASCAR Cup Series in Chicago will be announced at a later date. Both races will be surrounded by music and entertainment options for all ages, truly making it one of the signature sporting and entertainment events of the year. “Chicago’s streets are as iconic as our skyline and our reputation as a world class sports city is indisputable,” said Chicago Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot. “I am thrilled to welcome our partners at NASCAR to Chicago for an event that will attract thousands of people to our city. Chicago’s world class entertainment and hospitality industries, coupled with our city's history as a conduit for sports talent, make us the perfect hosts for this unique event.” Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue, Columbus Drive and select surrounding thoroughfares will be transformed into a 12-turn, 2.2-mile street course, with the start/finish line and pit road located along South Columbus Drive directly in front of Buckingham Fountain. The course will pass through the famed Grant Park, as well as approach the northern edge of Soldier Field, one of the most notable and recognizable sports venues in the country – and the site of the only other Cup Series race to take place in Downtown Chicago, in 1956. “Welcoming yet another NASCAR event to Illinois just weeks after the inaugural Enjoy Illinois 300 Cup Series race is a testament to the strength of our tourism industry from Chicago to Metro East,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Illinois, with its longstanding tradition of innovation, is a fitting host for NASCAR’s first-ever street race, and we are thrilled to welcome this new series to America’s most iconic drive next summer.” “Chicago is one of the world’s top sports and entertainment destinations. Year after year, fans from all over the world travel to our great city for high-profile sporting events,” said Kara Bachman, Executive Director, Chicago Sports Commission. “The 2023 NASCAR Chicago Street Race weekend will continue that legacy with another monumental sports moment and we look forward to welcoming fans to NASCAR’s first-ever street race.” Tickets for the 2023 NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend will go on-sale later this year at NASCARChicago.com. Additional details and elements of the weekend will be announced soon, and fans can follow @NASCARChicago on social media for the latest real-time updates on all aspects of the event. The remainder of the 2023 schedules for the Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and IMSA will be announced at a later date.

  • 30 Second Read: Ambetter 301

Photo by James Gilbert/Getty Images By Matt Marr For the first time in four seasons, Martin Truex Jr led the field to the green flag to start the Ambetter 301 alongside Chase Elliott. The caution flag waved on lap 5 with a huge crash that took place on the backstretch, Ty Dillion, Alex Bowman, Josh Bilicki and BJ McLeod were all involved. Truex Jr. dominated stage 1 en route to the stage win. Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick took the green to start stage 2 on the front row. An array of cautions during the 2nd stage flew, mostly solo spins by Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney and Chase Briscoe. Truex Jr. held off a hard charging Harvick to win stage 2. Briscoe and Harrison Burton restarted in the front of the field for the final stage. Christopher Bell took the lead away from Chase Elliott and made it look easy with 42 laps to go. Bell extended his lead over Elliott by a large margin and would put it on cruise control to win the Ambetter 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This is Bell's first win of the season and second of his career. Ambetter 301 Top 5: 1. Christopher Bell 2. Chase Elliott 3. Bubba Wallace 4. Martin Truex Jr 5. Kevin Harvick

  • NCS Recap: Christopher Bell tames the Magic Mile securing first win of 2022 at NHMS.

Holly Cain NASCAR Wire Service Christopher Bell has quietly established himself as a New England force over the past three years coming up the NASCAR ranks and on Sunday afternoon, he convincingly earned his biggest triumph to date there, a victory in the NASCAR Cup Series Ambetter 301 and a ticket to the 2022 Playoffs. Bell led the last 42 laps of the 301-lapper at the one-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway claiming the trophy – and the traditional lobster hoist in Victory Lane – with a massive 5.767-second victory over last week’s race winner Chase Elliott. It’s only the second NASCAR Cup Series win for the third-year driver of the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota but oh, so significant as it launches the 27-year old Oklahoman into a guaranteed Playoff contention. The 14th different winner of the season came into the race ranked last among the top-16 drivers that would advance to the Playoffs. Now he has secured his title run. “Man, that one was much needed right there,” said Bell, who won three consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series races at the track from 2019-2021 and was runner-up in last year’s NASCAR Cup Series race there. “I tell you what, that was a helluva race from my viewpoint. It was so much fun racing with the 45 (Kurt Busch), the 22 (Joey Logano) and the 9 (Elliott). We were all running different lines. That was a blast. Just so happy to be here at Joe Gibbs Racing and so good to get that 20 car back in victory lane.” “Winning Cup races is hard,’’ he added with a smile, thanking the crowd. “Just seems like we’ve been close then we had fallen off a little bit last week. I was talking to my best friend and I told him, ‘earlier in the year I felt like we were right on the verge of winning. Then the last couple of weeks I felt like we were pretty far away. “But here we are today.’’ Elliott, who hasn’t finished worse than second in the last four races (including two victories), said he just didn’t have anything for Bell at the very end. “I feel like just a poor run of execution on my end in the last run,’’ said Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. “It took me a while to get past Joey (Logano) and the 45 (Busch) and I had to run harder than I wanted to. “Just make a couple mistakes and couldn’t get much breathing room.” The string of top-two finishes was of little consolation to the 2020 series champion. “When you’re in position like we’ve been in, you need to finish it off.’’ Bubba Wallace, driver of the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota, turned in a career best day at New Hampshire finishing third – his second top-five of the season but first top-10 since a 10th place at Kansas eight races ago. “Just proud of the team, proud of myself and proud of everybody at the shop,’’ Wallace said, adding, “It’s been hell for me the last month so good to come out with a top-five. “This sport humbles you so there’s really no surprises. Have to keep the task at hand and be mindful of your surroundings and do your job.’’ Bell’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth followed by Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick. The pole sitter Truex won both stages – his series-leading sixth and seventh of the year – and led a race best 182 laps; including the first 95 consecutively to start the race. His No 19 JGR Toyota certainly looked like the car to beat, but a two-tire stop for him – and for Harvick – with about 100 laps to go turned out to unsettle the car and he dropped briefly outside the top-10 before racing back to his fist top-five since a fifth place at Talladega, Ala. in April. JGR’s Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Trackhouse Racing’s teammates Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez and 23XI Racing’s Kurt Busch rounded out the top-10. Seventh place was Keselowski’s best finish of the season in his first year as co-owner/driver of the No. 6 Roush Fenway Keselowski Ford. With Chastain’s 14th top-10 and Ryan Blaney’s 18th place finish, there was significant movement atop the championship standings. Chastain has moved into second place, 67 points behind the leader Elliott. Blaney – who is still looking for his first victory of the season – is now third. Truex, who is also still racing for a Playoff-securing victory is now in the 16th and final Playoff position – 68 points ahead of Harvick, who has not won in 2022 either. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action next Sunday at the M&Ms Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono Raceway (2 p.m. ET, USA Network, MRN, SiriuxXM NASCAR Radio). Last year was a weekend doubleheader event with Alex Bowman and Kyle Busch each winning a race. –30– NASCAR Cup Series Race – 30th Annual Ambetter 301 New Hampshire Motor Speedway Loudon, New Hampshire Sunday, July 17, 2022 (5) Christopher Bell, Toyota, 301. • PRUETT, HIGHT, HARTFORD & M. SMITH OPEN WESTERN SWING WITH WINS AT Mile High Nats

MORRISON, Colo. (July 17, 2022) – Leah Pruett delivered the first Top Fuel win for Tony Stewart Racing, powering to the victory on Sunday at the 42nd annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. Robert Hight (Funny Car), Matt Hartford (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also won at the 11th of 22 races during the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season. The stop in Denver marks the first event in the three-race NHRA Western Swing. Pruett, who is also married to Stewart, went 3.884-seconds at 316.38 mph in her 11,000-horsepower Dodge Power Brokers dragster to knock off Shawn Langdon in the final round. It gives Pruett her first win of the season and 10th in her career, as well as her second victory in Denver. She reached the final round by taking down Antron Brown, Clay Millican and Justin Ashley, making a series of consistent runs that was her trademark this weekend in Denver. Pruett made another strong run in the championship round to close out one of the more meaningful weekends in her career at her sponsor’s race. Getting the first Top Fuel win for the TSR team was also massive for one of the sport’s most popular drivers. “This is absolutely everything,” said Pruett. “We have the best fans in the entire nation. This is my favorite track. I’ve been trying to be emotionless all day just to do my job, but this is for (crew chiefs) Neal Strausbaugh, Mike Domagala, Ryan McGilvry, and my entire crew that has flawless all weekend. I told you guys a long time ago it was coming and couldn’t be prouder than to do it at a place like this. Thank you, Bandimere.” Added Stewart: “Of all the places we go to on the circuit, Denver is the one she circles on the calendar. Denver is the one she loves the most and the thing she talks about the most. It’s the support of the fans here that means the most to her. For her to win her first race with this group and this organization here, it means the world to her.” Langdon advanced to his second final round this season and 37th time in his career after getting past Greg Carillo, points leader Mike Salinas and Josh Hart. Salinas’ points lead stands at 10 over Brittany Force at the halfway point of the season. In a Funny Car finals rematch of the most recent race in Norwalk, Hight delivered the same result against Bob Tasca III, continuing his incredible season by going 4.065 at 311.92 in his 11,000-horsepower Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS. That gives the points leader his second straight win, fifth this season and 58th in his career, and his fifth victory in Denver. Hight, who qualified second, reached the final round for the seventh time this year in what’s been a dominant stretch by defeating Terry Haddock, J.R. Todd, and teammate John Force. He powered past Tasca to win for the third time in five races and open up the possibility of sweeping the Western Swing. “Things are going our way right now, but there’s a lot of good teams out there,” Hight said. “I give all the credit to our team. Last year was probably the worst race we’ve ever had on the mountain. This year, we made quality runs and went down the track every time. We made a lot of good runs, and I was confident my guys had it figured out. We just raced really smart, made it go down the track and I tried to do my job. To have five wins at this point in the season, it’s surreal. Everything is working from top to bottom and we’re just going to try to stay focused and keep working. It’s been a great first half of the season, but these next 11 are going to be even tougher.” Tasca reached the finals for the second straight race and 23rd time in his career by knocking off Chad Green, defending world champ Ron Capps and Jack Wyatt, who upset No. 1 qualifier Matt Hagan in the opening round. Hight also extended his points lead to 95 points over Hagan. Hartford was terrific on the starting line when it counted, using a .004 reaction time and then a strong run of 6.967 at 196.36 in his Total Seal Camaro to knock off No. 1 qualifier Aaron Stanfield in the finals. It gives Hartford his first win of the season and fifth in his career, and also some redemption at Bandimere Speedway after finishing as the runner-up to Greg Anderson in 2019. That was the last time Pro Stock raced on Thunder Mountain before this weekend, and Hartford made the most of it by knocking off Deric Kramer, Mason McGaha, and Cristian Cuadra. He left no doubt against Stanfield, leaving the starting line first and rolling to a big win. “I love Bandimere, but it’s a hard facility to race at,” Hartford said. “Since Epping we’ve turned our program around and come raceday I know we’re going to have a top car. It would eat me up every time I watched the finals versus Greg in ’19. It’s a hard pill to swallow knowing if I would have driven better, I could have won that race. But to have this redemption it’s great for this team. Coming up here, it’s an equalizer and anyone can win on raceday, but I was relaxed, and I knew I had a great car.” Stanfield reached his fourth straight final round, sixth this season and 12th in his career after knocking off Bo Butner and Troy Coughlin Jr. He also closed within 35 points of leader Erica Enders, who fell in the first round. Smith capped off a dominant weekend in Pro Stock Motorcycle by going 7.097 at 190.22 on his Denso Auto Parts Buell to knock off Joey Gladstone and win for the second straight time in Denver, also setting the track speed record en route to his 34th career win and second this season. It was a fitting finish to an event that included track records all weekend, including a couple on Sunday. He became the first rider to reach the 7.00s in qualifying and then became the first in the class to go 190 mph on Thunder Mountain, doing so in his semifinal win against Angelle Sampey. In the final round, Smith went event faster and nearly equaled his qualifying run of 7.090, as he remained a clear step ahead of everyone in Denver. “This is the bike that won this race last year and it paid off,” Smith said. “We qualified No. 1, won the race, and set both ends of track record. I can’t ask for much more than that. I really wish I’d have run Angie in the final, but something happened to her bike in the (semifinals). Her bike slowed up, but Denso took the win and that’s most important.” Gladstone reached his second straight final thanks to wins against Ryan Oehler, Eddie Krawiec and Angie Smith. Steve Johnson stayed in the points lead and now holds just a 10-point advantage over Angelle Sampey and 19 over M. Smith. • Dixon Ends Drought, Ties Mario with Commanding Toronto Win

Photo: INDYCAR Wire TORONTO (Sunday, July 17, 2022) – The drought finally is over for Scott Dixon. Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Dixon earned his first victory since May 2021 at Texas Motor Speedway – a span of 23 races, the second-longest winless streak of his illustrious career – by capturing the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday. Dixon drove his No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to a victory by .8106 of a second over Colton Herta in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda. The victory also was the 52nd of Dixon’s career, tying him with fellow legend Mario Andretti for No. 2 on the all-time INDYCAR SERIES win list. A.J. Foyt leads with 67 wins. Dixon’s fourth career Toronto victory extended his record to 18 consecutive INDYCAR SERIES seasons with at least one win, and he also has won a race in a record 20 seasons overall. SEE: Race Results | Race Highlights “Ended a streak there, which is fantastic,” Dixon said. “Just so happy for the team. A crazy year for the 9. The PNC Bank No. 9 back in winner’s circle. It just feels so good. “To be close to Mario, every time I’m asked these questions, I’m just so thankful that we still have A.J. and him in the pits. We get to see them; we get to talk to them. It’s just fantastic. It’s huge, man. I just feel so lucky to be a part of this group.” Felix Rosenqvist finished third in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet to earn his first podium result since his sole career INDYCAR SERIES victory in July 2020 at Road America. Graham Rahal finished a season-best fourth in the No. 15 United Rentals Honda, while NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship leader Marcus Ericsson finished fifth in the No. 8 Huski Chocolate Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Ericsson expanded his lead from 20 to 35 points over second-place Will Power in the series standings. Power finished 15th after starting 16th in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. Dixon is fifth in the standings, 44 points behind his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Ericsson. Dixon would tie Foyt as the all-time championship winner in INDYCAR SERIES history with a seventh title. “Hopefully we’re kind of in the title hunt now,” Dixon said. “I’m hoping this is the start of the roll. I know the team definitely deserves it.” Dixon, who started second, used canny strategy from his pit box earlier in the race to take the lead for the first time on Lap 32 of the 85-lap race. Dixon chased NTT P1 Award winner Colton Herta for the first 17 laps around the 11-turn, 1.786-mile temporary street circuit around Exhibition Place. The Ganassi team called Dixon for fuel and to change from Firestone alternate “red” tires to the primary “black” tires on Lap 17. That move prompted Andretti Autosport to call Herta to the pits for an identical tire change on Lap 18, and Dixon – on hot primary tires – passed Herta and his cold primary tires on track during Herta’s out lap after his pit stop. That overtaking maneuver proved decisive, and Dixon circulated to the front on Lap 32 when Pato O’Ward surrendered the lead after finally making his first pit stop in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet. “We struggled a little bit on reds,” Dixon said of the Firestone alternate tires. “We made some adjustments after this morning (based) on some of the different tracks that we’ve been throughout the year. We had fought with understeer, and that definitely wasn’t the case today. It was a tough drive, man.” The race was remarkably clean for the first 44 laps, with just one caution for two laps in the opening laps after contact damaged the No. 51 Deloitte Honda of Takuma Sato. But the treacherous, bumpy circuit with its unforgiving walls spawned three caution periods between Laps 45 and 60, giving Herta and others a chance to jump Dixon on a restart. But Dixon held firm and assumed the lead for good under caution on Lap 61 when an off-sequence Rinus VeeKay pitted from the front in the No. 21 Bitcoin Racing Team with BitNile Chevrolet. Dixon led a race-high 40 of the 85 laps, with VeeKay second with 18 laps in front. Herta couldn’t get past Dixon on the final restart of the race on Lap 66. Then Herta focused on his mirrors and resisted intense pressure from behind from Rosenqvist, prevailing for second over the Swede by .5384 of a second at the finish. “Felix was really fast, and I’m glad we were able to keep him behind us,” Herta said. “He looked like a few more laps, and he was going to get us. We struggled a little bit with tire wear at the end, but other than that, our car was amazing.” Dixon will split $10,000 with his team and a charity of his choice for the victory as part of the PeopleReady Force for Good Challenge. The crucial run of five NTT INDYCAR SERIES races in four weeks continues with the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend this Friday through Sunday at Iowa Speedway, featuring a doubleheader on the .875-mile oval. The Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash is scheduled for 4 p.m. (ET) Saturday (NBC/INDYCAR Radio Network), with the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google at 3 p.m. (ET) Sunday (NBC/INDYCAR Radio Network).

  • Ansys Validates Safety and Cost Savings of NASCAR's Next Gen Race Car with Simulated Crash Tests

Source : ANSYS By incorporating Ansys' industry-leading crash simulation software, NASCAR significantly cut costs and accelerated the validation testing necessary to launch Next Gen in time for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season Ansys' simulation solutions enabled NASCAR and Elemance engineers to quickly and confidently perform virtual crash tests and build parts for its Next Gen race car during the pandemic Simulation reduced the need for physical crash testing, which resulted in cost savings of $1 million Virtual crash testing accelerated the development and validation time of NASCAR's Next Gen race car, which ensured its premiere at the start of the 2022 season PITTSBURGH, July 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- NASCAR used Ansys' (NASDAQ: ANSS ) simulation solutions to ensure the safety of its Next Gen race car in time for the 2022 season with virtual crash tests that accelerated validation time and reduced material costs for physical testing by $1 million. The crash simulations allowed NASCAR to overcome pandemic-induced physical testing challenges and meet its goal to debut the car in February at the Daytona 500 motor race, the 500-mile season-opener considered the most prestigious and important race in NASCAR. Virtual crash testing with Ansys simulation accelerated the development and validation time of NASCAR’s Next Gen race car By integrating Ansys® LS-DYNA® into crash testing, NASCAR was able to analyze, test, and validate multidirectional influences, including nonlinear and linear contact to the entire vehicle, spanning frontal impacts, roof crashes, lateral side impacts, rear impacts, and oblique impacts. This high-fidelity data, compiled by virtual crash simulations, slashed typical validation timing and material costs by reducing physical crash tests — estimated at $500,000 each — to only two full scale vehicle physical crash tests. Further, Ansys' predictive accuracy and results gave NASCAR the engineering confidence and ability to build parts without physical crash test data during early development stages in 2020 when on-site crash facilities were shut down due to COVID-19. When physical crash tests were later performed, Ansys' robust and comprehensive simulation models were verified. Similarly, the software's cloud computing capabilities allowed NASCAR to run and manage a large volume of simulations remotely using Ansys® Cloud ™ . "Ansys LS-DYNA was an important tool in getting the Next Gen car ready for the 2022 season," said John Probst, senior vice president of Racing Innovation at NASCAR. "The ability to simulate crash tests with highly-reliable results helped us work through the pandemic and prepared us for our physical crash tests." NASCAR, working together with Elemance, LLC, performed the engineering and simulation work leveraging the software's built-in design optimization tools to enhance the crash performance of the front and rear bumpers via simulation. "Ansys' crash simulation software provides a unique opportunity to safely analyze, test, and visualize an extensive amount of variables and conditions with confidence and precision," said Walt Hearn, vice president of global sales and customer excellence at Ansys. "In addition to increasing safety, virtual testing significantly reduces development and validation time as well as material costs. We are proud that our simulation solutions supported NASCAR in each of these areas and helped get Next Gen ready to race for the 2022 season." About Ansys When visionary companies need to know how their world-changing ideas will perform, they close the gap between design and reality with Ansys simulation. For more than 50 years, Ansys software has enabled innovators across industries to push boundaries by using the predictive power of simulation. From sustainable transportation to advanced semiconductors, from satellite systems to life-saving medical devices, the next great leaps in human advancement will be powered by Ansys. • NICK CASSIDY CLAIMS 1st FORMULA E WIN IN RAIN-SWEPT NEW YORK CITY E-PRIX OPENER.

Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy awarded his first Formula E win after a Red Flag halts the first race in the New York City E-Prix double-header With 10 minutes plus a lap to go, a torrential rain storm soaked the street circuit in Brooklyn forcing multiple cars to crash Envision Racing claim first and third place as Robin Frijns finishes behind Lucas di Grassi in second New York City Mayor Eric Adams presented the trophy to Cassidy in front of a capacity crowd in Brooklyn NEW YORK CITY, USA. Sat. 16 July 2022 – Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing) took a maiden Formula E race win in the New York City E-Prix, heading home ahead of Lucas di Grassi (ROKiT Venturi Racing) and teammate Robin Frijns as torrential rain deluged the track late in the race, creating the most dramatic finish of the season so far. In the final 10 minutes of the scheduled 45-minute plus one lap race, a storm swept in with heavy rain buffeting the Brooklyn Street Circuit leaving pools of standing water in the braking zone to Turn 6. A Full Course Yellow was called but Cassidy, di Grassi and Vandoorne - as well as Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) - couldn't help but aquaplane straight on and into the wall. More drivers fell foul in impossible conditions as the race was brought to an early conclusion with a Red Flag. Before the rain came, Nick Cassidy had started from Julius Bär Pole Position for the first time this season and led from the front through both ATTACK MODE activations. Di Grassi and Frijns applied pressure from behind as the race headed towards its conclusion with the pair having deposed Vandoorne from second on Lap 27 as the points race twisted and turned. Drivers’ World Championship leader Mortara had also worked his way up to fifth with a late second ATTACK MODE, the Venturi driver having missed out on the Duels in qualifying, starting ninth. The Red Flag meant the race result was decided on countback with finishing positions defined based on the lap prior to the one in which the stoppage was called, as per article 41.9 of the FIA sporting regulations. The ruling meant the race win went the way of an elated Cassidy, with di Grassi and Frijns rounding out the podium. Vandoorne wasn't able to capitalise on his starting grid advantage over Mortara, with the ROKiT Venturi Racing driver coming home in fifth but extending his Drivers' World Championship lead to 13 points over Vandoorne. Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) managed just 11th and Jean-Éric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) finished 18th, both outside the points. That leaves ROKiT Venturi Racing at the top of the Teams’ World Championship standings, 23 points up on Mercedes-EQ which climbs above DS TECHEETAH. It’s a busy night ahead for engineers in most of the team garages to prepare for Round 12 and the second race in the New York City E-Prix double header tomorrow. The iconic Empire State Building was lit up in Formula E’s distinctive electric blue to mark the fifth year of the New York City E-Prix in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. NICK CASSIDY, ENVISION RACING, #37 said: “It is such a rollercoaster of emotions, I was pretty calm after everything happened (but) obviously very disappointed initially. It felt like I did everything right today, felt like it was in the bag with ten to go, then it started raining. I was initially very disappointed considering that, but - and I know I'm biased - I think it is the right decision. "[When finding out he won] I said in the garage 'are you sure, are you sure?!' It is difficult for me to say too much, but I am super happy with the win and I don't want to talk about the decision making process and all that. But in terms of the race the team did a fantastic job, I had a fantastic car today and I am really pleased especially after last weekend that we could come here and take the win. LUCAS DI GRASSi, ROKiT VENTURI RACING, #11 said: “The crash today was the strongest Formula E crash of my career, one of the strongest crashes I have had in motorsport - it was well over 15g. I am fully bruised, my neck, my hands, my legs - but I'm okay. It just shows when you're not complaining there is nothing you can really do. "I am happy they gave a Red Flag and reversed the result of the race, that was the first thing to do. I am happy with the points, but unhappy the car is in complete pieces and that the mechanics will have to work hard to put the car together tomorrow.” ROBIN FRIJNS, ENVISION RACING, #4 said: “I am okay, I didn't touch the wall. The two guys in front, Nick and Lucas, they went straight in turn 6, they spun basically - I don't know what happened behind me but I was the only one who survived the carnage. "It was very tricky [avoiding the crash]. We are using the tyres for three-quarters of the race, the tread is going down and then the rain comes - you're basically driving with slicks. I braked a bit early, but I didn't see anything because of the spray from Lucas, and then when the spray disappeared I saw Lucas sideways, 45 degrees in front of me. Luckily I braked a bit early and just made the corner." • VIDEO and NCS Qualifying Recap: Truex grabs pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

HOLLY CAIN NASCAR Wire Service Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr., 42, earned his first pole position in four seasons, taking the top starting spot in Saturday qualifying with a lap of 127.113 mph at the one-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He’ll start the No. 19 JGR Toyota in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Ambetter 301 (3 p.m. ET, USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) alongside last week’s race winner, Chase Elliott in the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Truex last started on pole at Kentucky Speedway in 2018 – one of two race wins from pole in the last three times he’s started out front. Another showing like that this week would be key for Truex, who is still racing for his first victory in 2022. His best showing a fourth place at Richmond, 13 races ago. It’s the second pole position for Truex at New Hampshire – last earning the top starting spot in his 2017 championship season – and 20th pole position of his career. Kurt Busch and his 23XI Racing teammate Bubba Wallace will start their Toyotas on the second row, followed by another Toyota, JGR’s Christopher Bell, who has three Xfinity Series wins at the track and finished runner-up to Aric Almirola in last year’s NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire. Elliott’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron – who was fastest in practice – qualified sixth, followed by the defending winner Almirola, reigning series champion Kyle Larson, two-time New Hampshire race winner Brad Keselowski and four-time New Hampshire winner Kevin Harvick. It’s the best start for Keselowski, in his first year as co-owner of the No. 6 Roush Fenway Keselowski Ford, since a third-place qualifying effort at Daytona – his only other top-10 start of the season. FUTURE IS NOW Tyler Reddick, who earned his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory two races ago at Elkhart Lake, Wisc. was part of a major – and unique – announcement this week. The 23XI Racing team announced Reddick will be driving for them in 2024 – stunning much of the NASCAR world as the team secured its future driver more than a year before the current Richard Childress Racing driver will join the two-year old organization. “Announcing a driver over a year before he will be racing with 23XI is a little unprecedented, but Tyler was the driver we wanted and we did not want to miss the opportunity to bring him to our team,’’ 23XI President Steve Lauletta said Tuesday. “In making the announcement now the team has ample time to prepare for 2024 on the business side as we expect interest from potential partners and continue to see strong engagement from our current partners.” ALMIROLA HOPING FOR TWO IN ROW AT NEW HAMPSHIRE Stewart-Haas Racing driver Almirola is the defending winner of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race and there has been a lot of recent speculation as to whether the 38-year old may change his mind about retiring at the end of the 2022 season as he had planned. “It is humbling to have people keep questioning me about it,’’ said Almirola, who is ranked 18th in the championship and likely needing a victory to secure a 2022 Playoff position. “I have given it thought but I don’t have anything new to say really as of right now. I think for us and for our race team, my focus is to get through these next few weeks and try to win a race to get our way into the Playoffs. “I would like to do that here this weekend like we did last year. As far as anything that goes past this year, I don’t have anything new to say than what I’ve said previously.’’ After adjusting for race winners – Almirola trails 16th place Christopher Bell by 42 points in that final Playoff transfer position. A three-race winner in his 11-year, full-time NASCAR Cup Series career, Almirola has had a pair of top-5 finishes and six top-10 runs in 2022. Chase Briscoe’s win at Phoenix in March is the only victory for the Stewart-Haas Racing organization this season and he’s the only driver among the four SHR racers with a secured spot in the Playoffs. XFINITY SERIES JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry earned the first pole position of his Xfinity Series career for the Crayon 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m ET, USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Berry will start from the rear of the field after unapproved adjustments. This will mark Berry’s 47th career start in the Xfinity Series. He was followed No. 11 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet driven by 2021 series champion Daniel Hemric. It’s the third top-10 start in four starts at the New Hampshire mile for Hemric. Justin Allgaier, Ty Gibbs and Landon Cassill round out the top-5 in qualifying. Current Xfinity Series championship leader A.J. Allmendinger qualified seventh. NASCAR Cup Series regular William Byron qualified the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet 10th. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver Gibbs, who leads the series with four wins, was fastest in final practice, ahead of Trevor Bayne who will drive the No. 18 JGR Toyota and Byron. Christopher Bell is the three-time defending race winner but the NASCAR Cup Series regular is not entered this weekend.
