  • NASCAR and SeatGeek Enter Multi-Year Official Partnership

Press Release | SEAT GEAK, NASCAR New York, NY and Daytona Beach, FL (July 12, 2022) – NASCAR and SeatGeek, the high-growth technology platform that is transforming the live event experience for fans, teams, and venues, today announced a multi-year partnership. After entering into a relationship that allowed fans to buy and sell tickets to the sold-out Daytona 500 earlier this year, NASCAR and its owned and operated tracks have expanded SeatGeek’s role within the sport as its Official Ticket Marketplace Partner. “Fans from all 50 states and 41 different countries across five continents descended upon Daytona to experience the 64th running of the Great American race this past February,” said Daryl Wolfe, EVP and Chief Revenue Officer, NASCAR. “Our new partners at SeatGeek did a tremendous job integrating into our ticket sales ecosystem and providing fans with a frictionless process to buy tickets best-suited for their race day needs. Expanding our partnership across all NASCAR owned and operated tracks was an easy decision.” Whether fans like to sit close to the track, take in the view from the top of the stands, or camp in the infield, SeatGeek’s easy-to-navigate app and website help find the perfect ticket to help customize their race-day experience at the track. SeatGeek's client-first approach will help NASCAR target and convert new customers through customized messaging across SeatGeek's deep database of event-goers. “Our partnership with NASCAR helps us engage with one of the most passionate fan bases in sports. To us, this isn’t just a ticketing deal, it’s a true partnership,” said Jeff Ianello, EVP of Client Partnerships at SeatGeek. “After a hugely successful Daytona 500, it was apparent to us that we are two like-minded brands that prioritize putting the fan experience at the forefront of everything we do. Together, we will create only the best experiences for the NASCAR fans of today and tomorrow.” As an Official Partner of NASCAR, SeatGeek will have a presence across all NASCAR-owned tracks and Digital Properties, linking fans directly to SeatGeek’s NASCAR Racing HQ to buy tickets for an upcoming race. SeatGeek will also become a member of NASCAR Fuel For Business Council, allowing them to connect with NASCAR's broad base of Official Partners on business-to-business opportunities and co-promotions. Like new tires after a pit stop, SeatGeek continues to roll, adding new partners across all sports. In the first half of 2022 alone, the company announced new partnerships with the NHL’s Florida Panthers, Citi Open Tennis Tournament, Fiesta Bowl, Kansas City Current of the NWSL, and Leeds United of the English Premier League.

  • 23XI Racing Signs Tyler Reddick for 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Season

Mooresville, N.C. (Jul. 12, 2022) —23XI Racing announced today that Tyler Reddick will join the team in 2024. Reddick, a two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, is currently in his third full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series. The signing of Reddick for the 2024 season highlights 23XI’s continued commitment to building a championship-caliber organization. Founded in 2021 with Bubba Wallace as the lone driver, this move follows the expansion of the team to two cars in the 2022 season. “Tyler is one of the most sought-after young drivers and has been competitive in everything he’s raced,” said Team Co-Owner, Denny Hamlin. “His work on the track speaks for itself and he will make a fantastic addition to our lineup in 2024. The team has seen a lot of growth since our first race and signing Tyler is a great next step for us to remain competitive for years to come.” “Announcing a driver over a year before he will be racing with 23XI is a little unprecedented, but Tyler was the driver we wanted and we did not want to miss the opportunity to bring him to our team,” said 23XI Team President, Steve Lauletta. “In making the announcement now the team has ample time to prepare for 2024 on the business side as we expect interest from potential partners and continue to see strong engagement from our current partners.” “I’m thrilled to have the chance to join this team and look forward to how I can contribute to the organization,” said Tyler Reddick. “23XI has accomplished a lot in the less than two full seasons they’ve been in the garage, and I can’t wait to be a part of that continued success. Until then, my focus remains on my current team, winning races and being competitive.” About 23XI Racing 23XI Racing – pronounced twenty-three eleven – was founded by NBA legend Michael Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin in 2020. With rising NASCAR star Bubba Wallace selected to drive the No. 23 Toyota Camry TRD, the team made its NASCAR Cup Series debut in the 2021 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Wallace made history on October 4, 2021, when he captured his first career Cup Series win, becoming just the second African American to win in the Cup Series, and earning 23XI Racing its first-ever victory. 23XI Racing expanded to a two-car organization in 2022 with Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch driving the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD.

  • Racing Refresh Tech Tuesday: Formula E 101

(Image via @FormulaE) On July 1st, Racing Refresh became a member of the ABB Formula E FIA World Championship media corps which gives us more access to open-wheel racing and more content for fans such as yourselves. Which got me thinking; does the reader even know what Formula E is? Well, I sure hope you do. Let's just get the obvious out of the way, Formula E is an all-electric series and is the first major motorsport series that has ditched the internal combustion engine that has been used in motorsports since motor racing was formed. In this deep dive of Tech Tuesday, we will look at the history of Formula E: How the cars work and the technology and engineering that provides a glimpse of the future of racing as we know it. Like most things in life, ideas are brought up over a fancy dinner and a glass of wine. Well, that is exactly how Formula E came to fruition. It was in the "City of Lights" Paris, France where three men: Alejandro Agag, Jean Todt, and Antonio Tajani met in March of 2011 to plant the seeds into the blooming flower that is Formula E. Tajani and Agag were both prominent politicians at the time. For Todt, he was the President of the FIA. Their idea: to demonstrate the potential of electric vehicles and to facilitate new solutions to combat climate change. In 2015, the stage was set for the first race in series history in Beijing to start the 2015-2016 season. First things first, we should talk about the cars because without them, there would be no motorsports. The development of the first generation of Formula E car dates all the way back to September 2012 when Formula E was in the prototype stage of development. During this time, it was announced that McLaren would provide the electric motor, transmission, and electronics for all Formula E cars for the inaugural season. The battery was supplied by Williams and the body of the car was developed by Dallara. After a year of development, the Spark-Renault SRT_01E was announced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and time trials began in 2014 at Donington Park, England. In 2016, while the first-generation car completed its first season of competition, McLaren announced that they were going to be the supplier of batteries for the second generation of Formula E. The biggest difference between the two generations of cars was that the Spark SRT053 (later Spark Gen2) was that this generation of car could complete a full distance race. In the first years of Formula E, a driver would have to make a complete car change to complete a full distance race. With new regulations, the series made more changes. Electric motors were now designed by teams within FIA regulations, or a team could buy one for $297,400. The series also made the Gen2EVO, which was a small update to the second generation that saw the introduction of the Halo. The test driver for the car was the late French Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert. It made its introduction to the series in the 2018-2019 season. The third generation of Formula E vehicle is set to debut in the upcoming 2022-2023 season. The Spark-Gen 3 is going to be lighter and smaller than the first two iterations of the cars we have seen before. The cars will be the first FIA open-wheel cars with no rear brakes on the cars and will be seen as the most efficient race car ever made. With the introduction of a front and rear powertrain, the performance will lead to a decrease in lap times by up to four seconds. All electric power units are capped at 250 kW (350 kW for Gen 3) which is equal to 330 HP. Power output is all dependent upon what type of on track session is going on at the time and what power scenarios are available. Current cars have a top speed of about 280 km or just under 173 mph which is regulated by the FIA (Gen 3 will be just under 199 mph). Formula E is all about torque thanks to the efficient electrical motors which gives a 0-to-60 time in just under three seconds. From the first generation of Formula E, cars can be charged either with a wired power source or from a conductive charger in the floor of the car to be charged wirelessly. Each battery is a 54-kWh battery that is still supplied by McLaren. Generation 3 will offer up a mind-blowing 600 kW fast charging system to charge batteries between sessions. So we know about the cars, so how does a race weekend shape up? Well much like any other Formula One weekend, there is a practice, qualifying, and the grand prix that determines a winner. On most weekends, the series has all three events on the same day with at least two 30-minute practice sessions before qualifying. Qualifying has a very different style to most other series in motorsports today. Qualifying consists of the field of 22 cars that split into two groups of eleven drivers each using the current championship standings. From that point on, each driver tries to set the fastest lap in a ten minute session. From there, the top four drivers enter a bracket style qualifying procedure A1 vs B4 A2 vs B3 A3 vs B2 A4 vs B1 Each of the drivers get a one-shot qualifying attempt to then earn pole position. So now we know how practice and qualifying works. On to the Grand Prix, each E-Prix lasts for forty-five minuets plus one lap until a full race distance is finished. Tracks very in length from 1.2 miles to 2.6 miles set out by the FIA regulations. During the race drivers are set to a max engine output of 220 kWh, or 297 HP. Before the race, Formula E fans can vote for a driver to get "Fanboost", which allows a 25 kWh boost for five seconds that a driver can use in the second half of the race. Another way to gain power is through the "Attack Mode" activation point. Attack Mode gives a driver a 30 kWh boost to the motor which allows a full engine output of the 250 kWh engine. Since the FIA gives teams only one hour to prepare for race strategy before a race, it is always interesting on how drivers attack each race. One fun fact on Formula E is you can see visually on the cars which driver is using Fanboost or Attack Mode. On the HALO is a series of LED lights that go around it, if it flashes blue, the driver is in attack mode. If it glows purple, the driver activated fan boost. There is alot more on what makes a Formula E car tick, but if I explained it all in one article I would run out of things to write about. Thank you on joining us for another edition of Tech Tuesday, join us next week as we take a look in the world of NASCAR. • Leclerc fights back: Formula One Race Review

(Image via @ScuderiaFerrari) At the end of the seventy-one laps that completed the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, Charles Leclerc reigned supreme over the field as he took home his fifth win of his career and his third in the 2022 season. It's no secret that the Scuderia Ferrari team hasn't had anything to write home about since the Australian Grand Prix and for good reason. Poor strategy calls took a potential one-two finish at Monaco away from them. Leclerc had to retire twice in the span of three races at Barcelona and Azerbaijan. For Carlos Sainz, it hasn't been much better as he has failed to finish in four out of the eleven races so far this season. The results of these blunders have made Ferrari go from atop the Formula One Drivers/Constructors championship standings since the season opening race in Bahrain to now treading water just to survive in the span of eleven races. But Collin you say, Leclerc is only 38 points behind Verstappen in the standings and Ferrari as a team is only behind by 56 points for the constructors' standings. There is no need to panic just yet is there? While yes, Ferrari shouldn't be in full on panic mode as there are still ten races to go until the season finale race at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. But let's talk about Red Bull Racing and how they can play into this as well. Before the season began in 2022, Red Bull Racing had a lot of questions on how they can compete to defend a world title. Most of those questions have been in the Red Bull powertrain department because Honda has left them as an engine supplier. Meaning Red Bull joins Ferrari and Mercedes as a team that has to research and develop a engine for the season. History reminds us on how, in Formula One engines are pushed to the absolute limit and we see more retirements due to car failure in Formula One than IndyCar and the NASCAR Cup Series on a weekly basis. So let's look at the reliability of Red Bull right now. Starting in Bahrain, both drivers failed to finish over the last two laps of the race, but since they completed 90% of the event they were not given DNFs in the history books. For Max Verstappen, his only issue came with a failure of the MGU- H in Australia which forced him to retire, but after eleven races so far he has won seven of them which has given him a commanding lead in the driver's standings. For Sergio Perez, he has only had one retirement due to an engine and another from contact from Geroge Russell on Sunday in Austria. Pair that with consistent podium finishes and a win in Monaco set them up as the team to beat in 2022 My point is that from a reliability viewpoint it seems the Ferrari has more things that can go wrong to cost them a championship then Red Bull. It's a shame, really. Even though Verstappen was strong during the event, Leclerc was able to keep pace with Verstappen just on pure speed alone. Remember, Austria has long straights and out of the ten corners that make up the circuit, I would only classify two of them as slow. Those being the hairpin up the hill in Turn Three and the downhill, off-camber Turn Four. Both the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the Red Bull of Max Verstappen seemed very even on the straights as both of them could match speed with what seems like Ferrari would maybe gain a tenth or two on the straights as Verstappen would pull away through the middle sector which sets out as a tug-of-war throughout the lap. This happened all the way until lap twelve as Leclerc outbroke Verstappen into turn five and made the pass for the lead. Verstappen would pit for a fresh set of the medium compound as he dropped from second to eighth on lap fourteen. In a very welcome sight to see, both cars that make up the Haas F1 Team made their way up to fourth and fifth respectfully. By lap 27, the Ferrari's made there first stop of the day as both drivers switched from mediums to hards as Verstappen retook the lead with Hamilton in tow. Ten laps later, Leclerc took the lead as Verstappen made his second stop of the day for a new set of hard tires. The battle continued on lap 53 as Leclerc passed Verstappen in Turn Three and set sail in route to victory in Austria. Verstappen claimed unusual tire degradation for the lack of pace as the broadcast highlighted some cording for Verstappen which led him to a second-place finish. Lewis Hamilton rounded out the podium in third which was aided by the retirement of Carlos Sainz with engine trouble. For Mercedes, it was a roller coaster weekend as both drivers crashed out in the third round of qualifying. Russell again got back on track as Mr. Consistency as he finished inside the top five again for the tenth time in eleven races. For Lewis Hamilton, things have been going well for him. Since Montreal, he has not finished outside the podium and Mercedes for the first time this year outscored Red Bull and Ferrari to chip away from the huge lead the teams have in the constructors standings. The team who surprised everyone is Haas F1. After Mick Schumacher scored his first ever points finish in Silverstone the race before, the American team had both drivers finish inside the points for the first time this season. With the great results in Austria, Haas has jumped AlphaTauri in the constructors standings as they sit in seventh place. As we all know this team has rebounded quite well from seasons where they sat with Williams in the basement. Mick Schumacher also scored Driver of the Day honors from the fans. Americans also scored big in Formula 2 and Formula 3. Dalton Sargeant took his second straight win in Formula 2 and Jak Crawford had his first win in Formula 3. Formula One takes a week off as teams prepare to head to Le Castellet, France for the French Grand Prix at Circuit Paul Ricard on July 24th. Listen to our podcast "Early Apex" for more Formula One content this Thursday on Spotify.

CHICAGO, July 6, 2022 Hub International Limited (HUB), a leading global insurance brokerage and financial services firm, announced today a new sponsorship agreement with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) to become the primary sponsor of the No. 30 livery. RLL driver Christian Lundgaard will debut the car at the 2022 Honda Indy Toronto event scheduled to take place July 15-17 at Exhibition Place along the shores of Lake Ontario. HUB announces its primary sponsorship of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing No. 30 car "The orchestrated intensity of how a pit-stop comes together is the perfect metaphor for how HUB supports its customers throughout North America, and in Canada where we are the largest brokerage in the country. Much like our insurance and risk advisors, the drivers are essential – however, there are dozens of people behind the scenes acting as unsung heroes working together to make the driver's results and our customers outcomes a success," said Larry Lineker, HUB Executive Vice President and a member of HUB's Executive Management Team. "HUB has a strong affinity for RLL and their 'team-first' mantra, as well as the unwavering commitment to success that Bobby Rahal and his drivers exemplify. We are thrilled to be involved with RLL and Christian, a driver full of potential who we are all excited to work with and continue watching as his career takes off." HUB has deep ties to both the racing and auto industry, supporting the risk management needs of nearly 40% of auto dealerships in Canada. HUB also insures 13 of the full-time IndyCar drivers, which accounts for half of the field. HUB has insured RLL for more than five years and has been a partne of RLL as an associate sponsor of Graham Rahal's No. 15 car for two years. "Our team takes great pride in our relationship with HUB, and we could not be more excited to see this partnership continue to grow," said Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. "Outside of our shared love for racing, the HUB team has played a crucial role in the auto industry, supporting the evolving risks of dealers. This is protection that people and organizations like us cannot function without, and we are grateful for their efforts both on and off the track." The Honda Indy Toronto, one of the marquee races on the IndyCar circuit, is expected to be the largest sporting event in Toronto since the pandemic. A Danish rookie, Lundgaard made an impressive debut in the IndyCar Series at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August 2021. He turned heads when he qualified on the second row in fourth place and went on to finish 12th despite a condensed event schedule. He is making his NTT INDYCAR SERIES debut this year. "I never would have guessed there would be so many parallels between an insurance brokerage and racing," said Lundgaard. "After getting to know the HUB team and learning more about their values and how they operate their business through teamwork and educated risk taking (with protection as the priority), it's not too far off from how I prepare and work with my team each time I get behind the wheel. I feel very proud to drive the No. 30 HUB car in Toronto in such a monumental race." HUB is hopeful this first year in Toronto marks an annual event with Christian and the No. 30 car, as the firm continues to connect the parallels between the passions of its leaders, employees and customers, and the direct correlation to racing and the auto industry in Canada and beyond. Vandergriff is a young standout in the Top Fuel ranks, making his debut in the 11,000-horsepower class in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series during the 2019 season. He raced 11 events during his rookie year, advancing to the semifinals in Phoenix and his first final round in Dallas. Entertainment Weekly shared a sneak peek of the new season, featuring a clip of Vandergriff and Recchia getting one-on-one time on night one, where he shows off his Top Fuel dragster and shares some insight into who he is and expresses his interest in her. You can watch it here. NHRA and Bachelor Nation fans have also expressed excitement about Vandergriff joining this season, exclaiming things like, “I’d give you all my roses,” “I can’t wait! From seeing you on the racetrack to this,” and “My husband and I are stoked to see a drag racer in The Bachelorette.” The Bachelorette premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and will air every Monday in the same time slot until the season ends.

  • Ryan Blaney Family Foundation Helping Stop Alzheimer’s In Its Tracks

Salisbury, North Carolina – Ryan Blaney’s late grandfather, Lou Blaney, suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, which led to the creation of the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation. With a passion to help those affected and fight for a cure, the RBFF focuses on raising money and awareness around Alzheimer’s in hopes of someday seeing a survivor of the disease. Lou, the patriarch to the family’s rich racing history, was diagnosed with the disease at the young age of 64 and succumbed to the disease just a short five years later. While an exceptional racer, he was most importantly an integral part of his family, being a kind-hearted grandfather. Missed greatly by his loved ones, the RBFF honors his legacy by continuing to be advocates for other families who share similar experiences. This month, the RBFF is holding an initiative, “Helping Stop Alzheimer’s In Its Tracks”, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the NASCAR Cup race the weekend of July 29-31. With purchase of special RBFF Fan Pack, fans will receive the following: a reserved seat on Sunday, July 31, a limited edition RBFF Alzheimer’s Awareness t-shirt and cooling towel, and VIP access to a Q&A with Ryan. To purchase, please visit the following website: ims.com/blaneyfoundation . A portion of the proceeds from ticket package sales will be donated to the RBFF, who will be donating the received funds to the Alzheimer’s Association. If you are at the race at IMS, the RBFF will have a booth onsite Friday through Sunday with Alzheimer’s information and RBFF merchandise for sale, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association, as well. One in three seniors die with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and more than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. This disease kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined, and the death rate has risen 145% from 2000 to 2019. These alarming statistics push the RBFF to continue fighting for those suffering and the caregivers who are alongside them. To donate, please feel free to visit the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation website. The RBFF also has a text to give option: text RBFF to 56651.

PHOENIX (July 6, 2022) – On Tuesday, Aug. 30, people will have a chance to enjoy lunch with one of NASCAR’s all-time greats, and more importantly, raise money for a great cause. Phoenix Raceway announced today that four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon will be the guest of honor at the NASCAR Championship Ignition Luncheon benefiting Phoenix Children’s. All proceeds from the event at the Arizona Biltmore will fund the Phoenix Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, where children battling cancer receive cutting edge care with a compassionate touch. “Few drivers have made an impact on NASCAR like Jeff Gordon, and he continues to be a driving force today,” said Phoenix Raceway President Julie Giese. “Even better, Jeff is a relentless champion for pediatric cancer research, and we’re happy to partner with him on a great event that will drive positive results for the impactful work being done at Phoenix Children’s.” Gordon, who now serves as Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, is a NASCAR Hall of Famer with impeccable driving credentials. He won 93 NASCAR Cup Series races and four titles in a career that spanned 25 years. He’s also a two-time winner at Phoenix Raceway, which temporarily renamed the track in his honor prior to his final race at the iconic one-mile oval in 2015. Away from the track, Gordon spearheads Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, which supports the research of leading pediatric oncologists and brings new treatments to children in need. • NCS Race Recap: Chase Elliott wins at home, posts his third victory of the season.

Photo Courtesy: NASCAR By HOLLY CAIN - NASCAR Wire Service Chase Elliott wins at home, posts his third victory of the season Chase Elliott is a former NASCAR Cup Series champion and currently the 2022 title leader. But finally scoring a dramatic victory Sunday afternoon at his home track – Atlanta Motor Speedway – in front of a vocal and adoring home crowd ranks right up there as far as he’s concerned. Elliott’s No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet led a race best 96 of the 260 laps and held off a charging field to win Sunday’s Quaker State 400 Presented by Walmart, ultimately securing the trophy when the caution flag came out in the closing portion of the frenzied final lap. Corey LaJoie, who was dueling it out with Elliott on that last lap, brought out that caution after hitting the wall on the backstretch in a final attempt to pull alongside and pass Elliott for what would have also been a popular first career NASCAR Cup Series victory for the well-liked LaJoie. “This one’s up there for sure, to win at your home track is a real big deal I think to any race car driver,’’ said Elliott, 26, of nearby Dawsonville, Ga. “I watched a lot of guys do it over the years, Jimmie [Johnson] out in California. We haven’t really had a very good run here, so I felt like today was a good opportunity for us. “I’m just so proud. This is obviously home for me and home to a lot of great fans who made a lot of noise today. Couldn’t be more proud of our team.” Obviously disappointed not to earn the victory, but not disheartened, LaJoie said he was encouraged by the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet team’s work on Sunday and boosted by the confidence of being in position to win late in a race. “Closest I’ve ever been, for sure that was fun’’ LaJoie said. “I’m proud of my guys at Spire and everyone whose helped us out. “I made my move and it didn’t work out, and the siren is ringing in Dawsonville (Ga.) unfortunately,’’ LaJoie said referencing the famed Dawsonville (Ga.) Pool Room where the owners ring a bell to celebrate each of Elliott’s victories. With 27 lead changes among 12 drivers and 13 caution periods, it was an eventful day on the newly reconfigured and re-paved Atlanta Motor Speedway’s 1.54-mile track. And there was plenty of drama from the hometown kid winning his series-best third race of the year to several dust-ups among popular drivers. Ross Chastain, who had a busy day on track and was part of a couple of those incidents, rallied to finish runner-up to Elliott. “I hated that I took the best car here and I tore it up a couple times, but yeah, it’s incredible,’’ Chastain said of rebounding to score his fifth top two finish of the season. “Hats off to Chevrolet and Trackhouse for bringing this fast of a Jockey Chevrolet to be able to come back. Our road crew and pit crew did an awesome job to rebound through all the damage repair and we had a shot and I got inside of the 9 [Elliott] coming off [turn] 2 coming to the checkered and the caution came out.” After being collected in a nine-car accident just before the race’s mid-point, Chastain worked his way forward again only to make contact with veteran Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin as the two were running in the top 10 late in the race. The pair have had run-ins previously this season and Hamlin, whose car was badly damaged, was not happy after the race. “Everyone has different tolerance levels and as you all know, I’ve reached my peak,’’ Hamlin said. Team Penske rookie Austin Cindric – winner of the season opening Daytona 500 – finished third, with Petty GMS Motorsports’ Erik Jones and Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney rounding out the top five. Chastain’s Trackhouse Racing teammate Daniel Suarez was sixth, followed by Justin Haley, Aric Almirola, Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick rounding out the top 10. With the victory, Elliott extended his championship lead over Blaney to 47 points. Chastain is now third, 50 points behind Elliott. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to competition next weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with the Ambetter 301 on Sunday (3 p.m. ET, USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). • Mid-Ohio, Meet Mid-Summer.

Hot, Hot, Hot! The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course hosted NASCAR's third tier for the first annual O'Reilly Auto Parts 150. NASCAR's Xfinity Series hosted the annual visit to the Buckeye State for the last decade or so, but schedule changes this year brought trucks in town to play. Some of the key themes heading into the event included the following. A home-return for ThorSport Racing, which claims Sandusky, Ohio their stomping grounds. Summer temperatures increasing in the midwest. Despite lots of rain through the week, race day was to be dry. Pit Road located on a hill, those in second half of field pitting on a banking. Pre-Race Lots of fans and families were in the pits prior to the event. Children with their father racers were seen smiling. Carson Hocevar even brought his grandparents for the famed road course visit. Sponsors such as Safelite and O'Reilly had activation on track, and the Fox Sports team was prepped talking to drivers preparing for the event. I had the opportunity to speak with driving veteran turned superstar car owner Justin Marks prior to the event, who was coming somewhat out of retirement. He was holding his daughter Olivia and noticeably excited for his one-off. I asked Marks about the event possibly being his final start. "It was decided about four weeks ago, [to return to the wheel], I'm really not sure if this is my last one. Maybe there will be more, maybe not. It wasn't something I had been planning on for too long." Marks' truck was also seen with a tributing United States Marine Corps icon, which he said was a decision from Niece Motorsports. Another conversation with Ty Majeski, put the young Wisconsin driver on the spot, I asked him about his recent visit to NHRA's Norwalk event. He expressed that he loved the straight line racing, but wasn't sure if the advanced NASCAR schedule demands would allow him to spend more time with them anytime soon. Raceday Fans were graced with an epic flyover, continuing patriotic tradition after Independence Day weekend days ago, as an enormous C-17 jet flew over housed out of Port Rickenbacker Air Force Base. The green flag flew and Parker Kligerman showed to be quickest early on, taking the lead on the fourth lap. He won the first stage leading every lap thereafter. Throughout the first stage, the #17 DGR Ford driven by Tanner Gray had lots of engine concerns. Racing Refresh was in the pits and observed as the F-150 rattled through the whining death of a cylinder in the motor. They took several pit stops in their attempt to repair the damaged truck, but it never did return to full speed. The team did not lose as much track position as would normally be the case, as the 2.28 mile lengthy road course had two cautions for stopped vehicles on the track during the first stage. The second stage was a two man battle between the same two men who pushed to the victory back in Daytona. Parker Kligerman's Chevrolet led every lap until the final one, when two time winner Zane Smith passed him for the lead and claimed the second points paying stage. No cautions occurred in the entire second stage. The two continued to battle closely, never having more than a one or two second lead over the other in the final stint. Parker Kligerman's #75 Chevrolet led the majority of the event, including 20 of the final 25 laps. Kligerman hung on to win the event in a chassis that was originally built in 2015 for Cole Custer and JR Motorsports. In his victory celebration Kligerman was all smiles. He did a burnout and cheered, spiking the checkered flag in the yard and walking over to his diverse crew of independent crewmen. He approached his crew chief, gestured for a peaceful fist bump, and emotionally said 'Thank you.' He walked away from his team to park his car in victory lane, where he claimed an extra $50,000 from Camping World as part of the 'Triple Truck Challenge'. Fans could be heard screaming from the pits during both celebrations. Some think of Kligerman as an anaylst on TV, others a race car driver. But myself, I see him as a person that is driven to succeed no matter what he does. I see him, as Simply, Parker.

  • NXS Race Recap: Austin Hill makes his way to Victory Lane at his home track.

(Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images) Austin Hill makes his way to Victory Lane at his home track July 9, 2022 By HOLLY CAIN NASCAR Wire Service Radio trouble prevented driver Austin Hill from being able to speak to his Richard Childress Racing crew during the Alsco Uniforms 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday afternoon at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but he sure understood the final hand signal. Number one. The Georgia native, 28, won at his hometown track for the first time in his NASCAR career – holding off JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry by a mere .111-second –the closest Xfinity Series race finish in track history and another fitting number nod to Hill’s finish. His 73 laps led in the No. 21 RCR Chevrolet was most on the day and the most of his young NASCAR Xfinity Series career. “Man, look at this crowd, I love the fans’’ a smiling Hill said looking toward the loud and enthusiastic grandstands. “What a car. Man, RCR has been working their ever-loving tails off to give me a car that will race really fast.’’ Hill was so impressed and appreciative of the work of his crew, particularly to win on a day it had to overcome a major challenge. He came down pit road on the pace laps once the team realized his radio didn’t work. Hill could hear the crew, but they could not hear him. Even a new helmet didn’t solve the problem so he spent all of the often eventful 163 laps around the 1.54-mile speedway listening only. They worked out hand signals for adjustments he wanted during the pit stops. There were 17 lead changes in the race, but Hill took the lead for good on a restart with 48 laps remaining and held off Berry, Ryan Truex, Daniel Hemric and Tyler Reddick – sure that they would try to pass him in the final lap. The frontrunners got dicey as expected, but Hill was able to pull away and was never challenged heading to the checkered flag to take his second series victory in 2022. Truex finished third, followed by Reddick – who became a first-time NASCAR Cup Series winner last week – and reigning Xfinity Series champion Daniel Hemric. Noah Gragson and his JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier were sixth and seventh, followed by Landon Cassill, Riley Herbst and A.J. Allmendinger That 10th place finish marked a solid comeback for Kaulig Racing’s Allmendinger, who led the championship standings by a mere nine points going into the Atlanta race. A tire problem and slow pit stop put him down two laps in Stage 2, and it proved to be a long, challenging day for Allmendinger who methodically worked his way forward. At one point, he briefly lost the championship lead to Ty Gibbs. But Gibbs, Saturday’s polesitter, had his own problems. Racing hard with Herbst at the front on a restart for the final stage, Gibbs’ No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota hit the wall hard and suffered enough damage for him to take a DNF. A four-race winner, Gibbs went into the race trailing Allmendinger by only nine points, but now he’ll go to New Hampshire for next week’s race 29 points out of the championship lead. “We had a very fast Supra, we had a good car,’’ Gibbs told PRN Radio. “The 98 [Herbst] slid up and wasn’t clear and hooked us in the left front. It was hard racing and I just came home on the wrong side of it.’’ The Xfinity Series moves to New England next week with the Crayon 200 on Saturday at the one-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway (2:30 p.m. ET, USA Network, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). NASCAR Cup Series driver Christopher Bell has won the last three New Hampshire Xfinity races. -30- NASCAR Xfinity Series Race – 2nd Annual Alsco Uniforms 250 Atlanta Motor Speedway Hampton, Georgia Saturday, July 9, 2022 (5) Austin Hill #, Chevrolet, 163.
