- Renowned LA artist Ozzie Juarez to design winner’s trophy for the Mexico Series Race at the Coliseum
Press Release | NASCAR MEXICO SERIES LOS ANGELES (Dec. 7, 2023) – NASCAR announced today that Ozzie Juarez, local multidisciplinary artist from south central Los Angeles, Calif., will design and curate the winner’s trophy for the inaugural NASCAR Mexico Series Race at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 4. “We’re honored to have someone as well recognized and admired as Ozzie Juarez create the winner’s trophy for the NASCAR Mexico Series Race at the Coliseum,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Senior Vice President, Racing Development and Strategy. “Ozzie’s high standing among the Los Angeles art community and emphasis on Mexican imagery throughout his work makes him the ideal artist to bring the trophy to life.” Juarez is known for using the realms of painting and sculpture to honor and revitalize ancient and recent cultural artifacts, languages, and histories. Inspired by the techniques, collaborations, ambitions, and ephemeral qualities of unsanctioned public art, Juarez incorporates excerpts of paintings he observes across the LA landscape into his own work. This trophy design is rich in symbolism, paying homage to the Mexican ancestors in Mexico City. It incorporates six Aztec symbols, including the Tlaltecuhtli, Ehecatl, Tlaloc, Xochitli, the Aztec glyph for flame, and Olin. These are placed alongside a mix of other modern and vintage symbols to honor both the past and present. Taking the form of a four-sided pyramid transformed into a cup, the symbols are affixed to a single gear that symbolizes the speed, torque, and power of the source. The lower hands of Tlaltecuhtli cradle vintage logos representing NASCAR, while the upper hands invoke and channel energy and power. His other work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, San Francisco, England, Paris, Miami, and Mexico City and has been featured in publications including Los Angeles Times, Hyperallergic, Juxtapoz magazine, Artillery Magazine, Purple magazine, Yahoo News , LAist, BBC News and El Economista. Juarez is a pillar of the local arts community and in 2020 he founded TLALOC Studios, an artist-run community gallery and studio building in the South-Central neighborhood of Los Angeles. TLALOC evolves with its members, providing a space that encourages and promotes the possibility of a sustainable life as an artist, or as Juarez says, “a lifestyle worth living.” For more on Ozzie Juarez along with his previous and upcoming projects, visit his Instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/ozziejuarez/ . Watch as the drivers of the NASCAR Mexico Series battle for Juarez’s acclaimed trophy in their first race at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which jumpstarts a power-packed doubleheader of NASCAR racing on Sunday, Feb. 4. Racing begins on the Coliseum’s temporary, quarter-mile asphalt track at 2 p.m. with the NASCAR Mexico Series Race followed by the NASCAR Cup Series’ Busch Light Clash at 5 p.m. The third-annual Busch Light Clash is the NASCAR Cup Series’ season-opening exhibition featuring the sport’s top stars battling for supremacy. - EXCLUSIVE: Anonymous Source Confirms Thad Moffitt To Drive For Faction 46
By: Logan Morris (Cover Photo Source: Twitter.com/TeamFaction46 ) An anonymous source has confirmed to Racing Refresh that Thad Moffitt, the grandson of “The King” Richard Petty, will drive the Faction 46 Craftsman Truck Series entry in 2024. We can also exclusively report that Richard Petty will not be apart of the organization in any official capacity. Moffitt driving for Faction 46 coincides with the Petty family celebrating 75 years in racing in 2024. The official announcement will come at Petty’s Garage in Level Cross, North Carolina on Saturday.
- Loganity: Could Thad Moffitt Be The Driver For Faction 46?
By: Logan Morris (Cover Photo Source: Twitter.com/ TeamFaction46 ) This week, there has been plenty of speculation regarding Thad Moffitt’s future. Moffitt is set to reveal his plans for 2024 in an announcement on Saturday with his grandfather, “The King'' Richard Petty. However, could we already have an answer to those plans? On Thursday, it was announced that a new Craftsman Series Truck team would debut in 2024, Faction 46 . The team is owned by Logan and Lane Moore and will have a technical alliance with Niece Motorsports. Lane Moore told Eric Esteep on Out Of The Groove that a driver announcement would be coming this week. There are a few reasons to believe that Moffitt is likely that driver; 1. Faction 46 will run the #46 truck. The number 46 ceremoniously belongs to Thad Moffitt in the Petty lineage. The patriarch of the Petty family, Lee, started with the Number 42, and each new Petty for every generation has gone up one number since. Thad ran the 46 car in the ARCA Menards Series in 2021. 2. The colors of the truck on www.faction46.com appear to be red and Petty-esque blue, colors that could certainly fit the iconic Petty theme. 3. Moffit’s plans will be announced Saturday, and Lane Moore said Faction 46 will announce their driver “later this week.” 4. According to the media alert, Richard Petty and Thad Moffitt would be announcing a new NASCAR National Series Team and its alliances. 5. Thad Moffitt has been seemingly counting down to the number 46 this week on his social media. He’s been posting videos of each of his famous family members in their respective cars. (See Below) (Photo Source: Twitter.com/ thadmoffitt) 6. Finally, when I attempted to share the site www.faction46.com, the link preview seemed to give away that Thad Moffitt could be the driver. (See Below) If Thad Moffitt is the driver for Faction 46, it would be fitting. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Petty family will be celebrating 75 years in racing in 2024. While Richard Petty still serves as the “Club Ambassador” to Legacy Motor Club, Thad Moffitt appears poised to carry on the Petty legacy on the track 75 years after it began. Stay tuned for more as this story unravels!

- Petty Family to Celebrate 75th Anniversary in Racing in 2024
Press Release | THE PETTY FAMILY LEVEL CROSS, N.C. (December 4, 2023) – The Petty family will celebrate 75 years of racing in 2024. Off the cusp of NASCAR’s own diamond anniversary in 2023, the Petty family will now highlight their own memories from their first 75 years, which began in 1949. Lee Petty, the family patriarch, and his wife Elizabeth began their stock car business after Lee learned NASCAR was hosting its first sanctioned race in Charlotte, N.C. Lee finished 17th that summer day and began an enterprise spanning across four generations. Over the past seven decades, the Petty family helped define the sport. From behind the wheel and under the hood, to the garage and front office, the Petty’s paved the way and gave opportunities to many individuals – drivers, crew chiefs, mechanics, fabricators and more – to hone their skills and go on to become leaders in their respective trades. Their innovation, dedication, philanthropy and passion helped grow NASCAR into a national sport, all while staying true to their small-town roots. Their legacy has left countless memories, stories and tales to share with fans for years to come. “My father is a walking encyclopedia of NASCAR,” said Kyle Petty. “He was there with my grandfather, grandmother and uncle Maurice at the first NASCAR race in Charlotte in 1949 and our family has been going ever since. There isn’t anything our family hasn’t seen in NASCAR.” “75 years in the sport is an incredible milestone for our family, especially when it all began as a family business,” said “The King” Richard Petty. “Spending 2024, celebrating the success and contributions to the sport of racing that started with my mom and dad, then my brother Maurice, cousin Dale Inman, then to Kyle, Timmy, Ritchie, Mark, onto Adam and now Thad. We are all looking forward to sharing these stories with the fans.” Ritchie Petty, son of Maurice, has seen the Petty family evolve in the sport. “It’s special because it took the whole family to make it all work with such a huge amount of success,” said Ritchie. “Nobody in the family was more important than any other and from my grandfather to my dad and all my cousins, we felt involved in the success and the growth of the Petty family and NASCAR.” The Petty’s 75th Anniversary in racing includes the debut of a new commemorative logo that will be featured prominently next year at all Petty-related events and at the track on all Legacy Motor Club race cars in 2024. The year-long celebration will also include exclusive digital and social media content never seen before from the Petty family photo and video archives. This unique content will be featured on the @therichardpetty, @pettybrothersracing, @kylepetty, @pettymuseum and @pettysgarage social media accounts as well as a soon-to-launch YouTube channel.

- NASCAR R&D Engineers Honored for Garage 56 Program
(Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images) Press Release | GARAGE 56 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec 4, 2023) – NASCAR engineers who successfully transformed a Next Gen Cup Series Chevrolet Camaro for competition as the Garage 56 entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans have been honored for their efforts. NASCAR was named winner of the 2023 Dino Toso Racecar Aerodynamicist of the Year award, presented last week at the Race Tech World Motorsport Symposium awards dinner in London. The award, which is judged by a panel of worldwide industry experts, recognizes outstanding technical achievement in motorsports. Other finalists included Formula One champion Red Bull Racing and Ferrari, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. NASCAR Vice President of Vehicle Performance Dr. Eric Jacuzzi and NASCAR Vice President of Vehicle Design Brandon Thomas accepted the award on behalf of NASCAR. The pair were on-site hosting a panel discussion on the development of the NASCAR Next Gen Garage 56 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The Garage 56 project was an all-star collaboration that joined NASCAR and IMSA with Hendrick Motorsports, Chevrolet and Goodyear– the winningest team, manufacturer and tire in the sport’s 75-year history. The effort exceeded expectations, with the car running near the top of the GT field for more than 20 hours until a drive line issue sidelined the team for more than an hour. Overall, the car – which was piloted by seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button and two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller – was running at the finish, completed 285 laps on the 8.4-mile circuit and finished 39th in the 62-car field. The Dino Toso Racecar Aerodynamicist of the Year was first awarded at the inaugural World Motorsport Symposium in 2005. The award’s namesake won the first two awards as chief aerodynamicist at Renault F1 during the team’s championships in 2005-06. Toso passed away after a battle with cancer in 2008 at the age of 39. The World Motorsport Symposium is an annual international motorsport cabinet meeting that leads the conversation in advancing motorsport and automotive technology.

- Mahindra Extends Partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing
Press Release | STEWART-HAAS RACING KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Nov. 28, 2023) – Mahindra Ag North America has extended its partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) as the anchor sponsor for NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 team. The multiyear agreement with the NASCAR team co-owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart and industrialist Gene Haas will continue to feature Mahindra Tractors, a brand of Mahindra Ag North America, on Briscoe’s No. 14 Ford Mustang for the majority of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. The red-and-black No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang made its debut in the 2022 Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum in Los Angeles and then won in just its fifth race as a primary sponsor when Briscoe drove to victory on March 13, 2022 at Phoenix Raceway. The win secured Mahindra Tractors’ place in the NASCAR Playoffs and earned Briscoe the honor of being the 200th Cup Series winner in NASCAR history. “Our partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing has been instrumental in building awareness for the Mahindra brand in North America. We look forward to continuing our sponsorship into the 2024 season,” said Viren Popli, President and CEO, Mahindra Ag North America and Mahindra Automotive North America. “As owners of Mahindra Tractors, Tony and Chase appreciate the benefits our tractors deliver to the market and speak the same language as our dealers and customers. They are the perfect brand ambassadors for our tractors.” Houston-based Mahindra Ag North America is part of Mahindra Group’s Automotive and Farm Sector, the No. 1 selling farm tractor company in the world, based on volumes across all company brands. Mahindra offers a range of tractor models from 20-75 horsepower, implements, and the ROXOR heavy-duty UTV. Mahindra farm equipment is engineered to be easy to operate by first-time tractor or side-by-side owners and heavy duty to tackle the tough jobs of rural living, farming and ranching. Steel-framed Mahindra Tractors and side-by-sides are ideal for customers who demand performance, reliability and comfort. Mahindra dealers are independent, family-owned businesses located throughout the U.S. and Canada. “I’ve had the honor of representing Mahindra Tractors since they first came into NASCAR and I’m blessed to have this relationship continue,” Briscoe said. “Mahindra is a people-first company, and it starts with their dealer network and goes all the way up to their corporate offices in Houston. It’s a true partnership that extends beyond the racetrack.” Briscoe embodies the Mahindra customer. Originally from Mitchell, Indiana, Briscoe now lives on a 17-acre spread in rural North Carolina and uses two Mahindra Tractors to maintain his land – a 5145 4WD Shuttle and a 1626 HST. “I don’t just talk about Mahindra Tractors, I use them – a lot,” Briscoe added. “They’re rugged and are always up to the task, but they’re also really user-friendly. I didn’t grow up in farming, so I had a little bit of a learning curve when it came to operating a tractor. But Mahindra Tractors are pretty intuitive. How you think it should work is the way it works, and if you have a question, the dealers are very knowledgeable and always available to help.” Stewart, who drove the No. 14 in the NASCAR Cup Series from SHR’s inception in 2009 until retiring upon the conclusion of the 2016 season, is also a proud Mahindra Tractors owner. His 5145 4WD Shuttle is constantly at work on the 414-acre ranch he owns in his hometown of Columbus, Indiana. “One of my favorite things to do when I get home to Indiana is to just get outside and work the land,” Stewart said. “It’s a nice change of pace. Now, we still want to win in red on Sundays, but anytime I’m on a red Mahindra Tractor at home, I feel like I’m winning. “Obviously, this is a partnership that runs deep. We’re proud to represent Mahindra Tractors and are grateful for the friendships we’ve made since first coming together two years ago.” Several models of Mahindra Tractors are currently available with zero percent financing for 84 months. There are nearly 500 Mahindra dealers throughout the continental United States and Canada. To locate a dealer, click here.

We eagerly anticipate sharing our expertise with NASCAR Canada and its stakeholders to bolster their recycling and sustainability efforts.” “Once again, we are very proud to associate the name of our Pinty's brand with NASCAR Canada as a presenting partner, thus supporting motorsport in Canada, which will now have a new race in Quebec,” said Yanick Gervais, Olymel president and CEO. The schedule for the 2024 season features a mix of traditional events with a new season finale at Autodrome Montmagny – the first visit to the track for the NASCAR Canada Series and the first series finale to be held in Quebec (Sept. 22). The season will open at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) on Victoria Day weekend (May 19) as it did every year from 2011-2019. In between, the series will again race at Riverside Speedway in Nova Scotia with a doubleheader weekend (June 29-30), creating an East Coast Swing following the race at Eastbound Speedway in Newfoundland and Labrador (June 22). The popular dirt race at Ohsweken Speedway will return for the third year and will move to July 11, before the traditional Western Swing to Sutherland Automotive Speedway in Saskatoon (July 20) and Edmonton International Raceway (July 27). The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, which has been run since 1967, returns on Sunday, August 11. NASCAR also announced that longtime Canadian motorsports executive Alan Labrosse has been named General Manager of NASCAR Canada. Labrosse, a member of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame, will be charged with growing and promoting NASCAR throughout Canada, which includes oversight of the NASCAR Canada Series. Following a successful career as a driver, Labrosse transitioned to the business side of the sport. He owned and operated Autodrome St-Eustache for 13 years and has served as a promoter, team owner and agent. All NASCAR Canada Series races air on TSN and RDS in Canada and FloSports in the United States. The full broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
