  • Formula One Race Preview: British Grand Prix

After the past three races that have been dominated by the Red Bull Racing team and Max Verstappen, Mercedes looks to flip the narrative and get back atop the podium as Formula One comes to the famed race track of Sliverstone for the British Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton returns as the defending winner of the event. Track Facts: The grounds of the Silverstone circuit are dated with British history. In 1942 during the second world war, the grounds were a Royal Air Force base that was in operation until 1946. The track has gone under many different configurations and upgrades until 2010 where the current 5.891 km (3.661 mi) has been used. Silverstone is one of the fastest tracks on the F1 calendar and has been one of the most technical tracks as well. With corners like Maggotts, Becketts, Corpse, and Abbey looking to give some of the best drivers in the world some challenges. Event History: The first British Grand Prix was held in 1950 when Giuseppe Farina took his Alfa Romeo to victory lane. He also went on to become the world champion later that year. Since then, the British Grand Prix has bounced around other race tracks in the country. That was until 1987, when Silverstone became the designated track for the event. Lewis Hamilton is the only driver in Formula One history to win the event seven times. Joining him as the only other active winners of the event are both two-time winners in Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. 2020 Event: A remarkable drive by Lewis Hamilton in the closing laps secured his seventh win at Silverstone in his career, despite a left-front tire coming apart on the last lap. His teammate Valtteri Bottas also had a tire go down on lap 50 of the event, costing him a second place finish. Max Verstappen pitted with only a few laps to go and scored the fastest lap of the race. Margin of victory was only five seconds Sprint Qualifying: The British Grand Prix will be the first event in F1 history to introduce the sprint qualifying format that was announced earlier this year. The event will be one-third the distance of the Grand Prix on Sunday. Designed to increase on-track action and engage fan interest in the days leading up to the event. On Friday, there will be a qualifying session to determine the sprint race line up for Saturday. The results of the sprint race will determine the grid for the British Grand Prix. The top three who qualify will receive championship points. First place receiving three points, second place with two points, and third place with only one point. Event Predictions: With the potential of another exciting British Grand Prix ahead of us this weekend, it will be hard to think that anyone has the speed to battle with Hamilton and Verstappen. Add to that formula Sergio Perez from Red Bull and the McLaren of Lando Norris. Both of them could be knocking on the door to break through this weekend to the top of the podium. Ferrari will expect to continue a good points weekend as they have closed the gap to McLaren after Daniel Riccardo is still having disappointing finishes. Which is testing the patience of the McLaren front office. Silverstone is known for being a drivers track, with so many opportunities to make a mistake, clean driving and the right strategy are keys to this weekend. With that being said, I believe Lewis Hamilton wins this weekend. Showing that Hamilton is still in this championship hunt. You can watch the Formula One British Grand Prix at 9:00 A.M. EST on ESPN.

  • Formula One unveils new car ahead of 2022 debut

Move over NASCAR, Formula One is introducing a new car too. On Thursday, the FIA revealed a full-scale mock-up of the car. Showing the bold regulation shaping the F1 grid for years to come. The goal for the FIA with the new car is to produce more exciting racing on track, with cars able to follow closely in the draft and increase overtaking opportunities. One of the words thrown around was the reintroduction of ground effect. The way that air passes around the car. Rather than having a flat underbelly, the body will now have two channels that run underneath the car. The hope that the cars downforce is created from the underbody which creates cleaner wakes behind the car. The front wing and endplates on the rear wing have been designed to be less sensitive to dirty air from the car in front of it. The new rear wing does away with the endplate and the stong streams of air the produce. With simulation and wind tunnel testing that has been conducted, the FIA believes that a car would have at least 86% of its maximum downforce at the distance of one car length compared to the 55% downforce the current cars have. Rims have also been increased to 18 inches from the current 13-inch rims that are currently being used. Engines will remain the same until new engine regulations will be introduced in 2025. But the design of power units will be frozen for the next three years starting in 2022. As well as a new fuel regulation of at least 10% of the fuel must be sustainable ethanol in the mixture.

PRESS RELEASE - TEAM PENSKE CINDRIC SET TO DRIVE NO. 2 BEGINNING IN 2022 July 15, 2021 CINDRIC SET TO DRIVE NO. 2 BEGINNING IN 2022 Team Penske announced today that Austin Cindric, the defending NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Champion and the current series points leader, will drive the famed No. 2 Team Penske Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Cup Series starting in 2022. This comes after Cindric was previously announced to transition to the Cup Series full-time next season driving the No. 21 for Wood Brothers Racing. Concurrently, former NASCAR Cup Series Champion Brad Keselowski will depart Team Penske at the end of the 2021 season to pursue other opportunities within the sport. “Austin is a champion and has proven his abilities both on and off the track.” said Roger Penske. “The Cup Series is a big step for any rookie but making this move now, in conjunction with the introduction of the new NextGen car, makes sense. He has gained valuable experience this year competing in a handful of races at the Cup level and he has shown that he belongs out there.” Cindric has earned 12 Xfinity Series wins for Team Penske and currently leads the series point standings and tops in wins, top 10s, stage wins and laps led. He has also made six starts in the Cup Series in 2021, leading laps in three of those events. At COTA and Road America, Cindric qualified in the top-five and led laps in each race. He also led laps at the Daytona 500 while running in the top 10 for the majority of the race. Cindric will join teammates Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano to round out a strong NASCAR Cup Series lineup for Team Penske in 2022. “Throughout my NASCAR career, I've grown a lot as a driver and an individual,” said Cindric. “There are so many individuals within the walls of Team Penske that have elevated me to a level that matches this opportunity. The support towards my development from Roger, Team Penske, and all of our partners has been the leading factor towards race wins and a championship. “The No. 2 car is iconic to this sport and is a number that represents the foundation of this team. It is a great honor and a great responsibility to continue that role. As 2022 gets closer, I am excited to embrace that. Until then, my focus remains on winning another Xfinity Series Championship.” Additionally, Team Penske announced that long-time partner Discount Tire will remain a key sponsor with the organization moving forward on both the No. 2 of Cindric and the No. 12 of Blaney in 2022. The remainder of Cindric’s partner lineup will be announced at a later date.

  • Harrison Burton & Wood Brothers Racing To Team Up in 2022

PRESS RELEASE - Wood Bros. Racing Second-Generation Driver Set to Race in NASCAR Cup Series in Iconic No. 21 Ford Mustang STUART, VA (July 15, 2021) – Harrison Burton, a second-generation driver and four-time NASCAR Xfinity Series race winner, will pilot the famed No. 21 Ford Mustang for Wood Brothers Racing beginning in 2022, the team announced today. Burton will become the latest driver in a long list of legendary names that have piloted the No. 21 Ford for the Woods when he takes over the seat beginning at the 2022 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Austin Cindric, who had previously been announced as the driver for the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford Mustang in 2022, will now move over to Team Penske to drive the team’s No. 2 Mustang, opening the door for Burton to make a jump to the NASCAR Cup Series full-time. Burton, the son of former NASCAR Cup Series driver and current NBC race analyst Jeff Burton, has been a mainstay in NASCAR’s lower divisions since arriving on the scene in the Truck Series at just 18 years of age in 2019. In 2020, Burton won four races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (Fontana, Homestead, Texas and Martinsville) en route to a seventh-place finish in the final point standings and series Rookie of the Year honors. This season, the 20-year-old Burton has five top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes in 18 races and sits fifth in the Xfinity Series point standings. “Since I began racing quarter midgets, the hope and goal was always to become a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series,” said Burton. “Now, I get to do this with one of the most storied teams in NASCAR history in the Wood Brothers and with an association with Ford Motor Company and Ford Performance. I don’t think I could have dreamt of a better situation to put myself in when it comes to the start of my NASCAR Cup Series career. Add to that the technical alliance with Team Penske and the knowledge I’ll gain from working with their drivers and I’m really excited for 2022 and the future. This is a great opportunity for me and I can’t thank Eddie and Len Wood enough for giving me this chance.” Wood Brothers Racing is the oldest active NASCAR team and one of the winningest teams in series history. The team currently has 99 victories at NASCAR’s top level, with the likes of David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Neil Bonnett, Dan Gurney, AJ Foyt and Buddy Baker all visiting Victory Lane with the team. The organization also currently enjoys a technical relationship with Team Penske, which will continue into 2022, along with major support from Ford Performance. Sponsorship for the No. 21 will be announced at a later date, but will once again include support from Ford Quick Lane and Motorcraft. “As a team owner, you always want to keep an eye for the future and what’s best for your organization in hopes to set yourself up for success long-term,” said team President and Co-Owner Eddie Wood. “As things have progressed and changed over the last few months, we had the chance to look at what our options are and when we determined that Harrison would be available for our team, we wanted to jump at the opportunity to work with him. Harrison is young, but comes from a family full of successful race car drivers. The advice and support they can offer to Harrison as he makes this transition will be very important to his success. What a lot of us forget is that he is not even 21 years old yet and has only been racing in both the Truck Series and Xfinity Series for a couple of years. So when we looked at the future and finding someone to build our program around, Harrison seemed like a great option.” “We are quite excited to begin working with Harrison and 2022 is perfect timing,” said team Co-Owner Len Wood. “With the introduction of the new NextGen car next year, we have the ability to grow with him and build our program around what he wants. We don’t want to say it puts him on a level playing field, because there are a lot of great drivers in the Cup Series, but having a rookie come in at the same time a new car is introduced will help build us a solid foundation and hopefully get us off to a strong start.” Additional details surrounding the 2022 season, including partners, will be announced at a later date.

  • F1 2021 Review

After recently acquiring the F1 title after the announcement of a new operator over Codemasters, EA Sports official dropped their first title underneath their banner; F1 2021. The first major racing simulator on the Next Gen consoles. While the F1 franchise has seen its ups and downs over the countless titles that have been released in the franchise, F1 2021 seems to have moved forward into the future with an overall stellar game and updated physics engine this year. F1 2021 introduces us to all new story line set within the confines of Formula One. Breaking Point will be about an eight-hour story mode set over three seasons, from 2019 to 2021. The story follows Aiden Jackson, a young and rising talent in the F1 world as you see him win a F2 championship and then sign on to one of the five teams that you can choose within the story. (AlphaTauri, Hass, Williams, Alfa Romeo, and Racing Point - Aston Martin Racing) Joining you in this story is Casper Akkerman, who is a grizzled veteran of Formula One who still has something to prove even in the twilight of his career. The antagonist in the story line is Devon Butler, another young driver who has also come blazing through the developmental series. The story mode has similar parallels to other EA Sports story modes like Madden NFL's Face of the Franchise. Breaking Point in a way offers more in-depth character arcs and a more engaging story. Even though it is something that players only play once or twice through and never touch again, the story adds much-needed content to bring a fresh breath of air into this year's title. Adding to this years title is an update MyTeam mode that puts you as an owner-driver role in Formula One, something NASCAR fans wish they had in a game. Having the ability to sign sponsors and drivers, upgrade your facility and R&D departments adds depth to make each day on an F1 calendar as engaging as ever. Practice has been streamlined so you could skip the on-track development and let that be an automated process. Which is a very nice touch if you just want to focus entirely on the on-track aspect of a weekend. If you buy the Deluxe Edition of the game, you have the option to sign F1 legends to your MyTeam like Senna, Schumacher, Prost, and Rosberg just to name a few...if you have the available funds that is. F1 2021 also has received some graphics updates. Taking advantage of the power of new graphics cards and new consoles that have been released to the market. The physics engine feels phenomenal, which we have come to expect in F1 games released in the past few years. As a driver, no longer can you adjust fuel mixtures during the race, which is as expected following the F1 rules set out in 2021. To defend, which may cause some headaches in online playing, will be using ERS reserves or taking defensive lines going into braking zones, which could lead to much closer racing. In short, the EA Sports F1 2021 venture is off to a very great start. Nothing about this title feels old or being repurposed from last year. With the addition of Braking Point, the title feels fresh again. A great foundation to build on into the future. We here at RacingRefresh.com give F1 2021 a 9/10. A definite must buy for a Formula One fan or a sim racer in general.

  • Kyle Larson Extends with Hendrick Motorsports - Full Sponsored Through 2023

Press Release - Hendrick Motorsports CONCORD, N.C. -- Hendrick Automotive Group, via its HendrickCars.com brand, will become the 35-race majority sponsor of Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team in both the 2022 and 2023 NASCAR Cup Series seasons. In addition, Hendrick Motorsports has extended the driver’s contract for one year through 2023. As part of the agreement, HendrickCars.com will also sponsor Larson in all non-NASCAR events in which he competes, including branding on the driver’s helmets, gloves and firesuits. The 28-year-old native of Elk Grove, California, is a prolific dirt racer who has won 56 times since January 2020 in a variety of cars and series outside of NASCAR. In addition to Larson, HendrickCars.com is the primary sponsor of four-time NHRA champion Greg Anderson. “When we perform on the track on Sunday, we can feel the impact on Monday,” said Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “With the chance to plan for the next two years, the program is only going to help Hendrick Automotive Group sell more cars, book more service appointments and ultimately do more business. It will also allow our company to recruit talented people and support our internal recognition and incentive programs. The more we followed the data, the easier the decision became. We are seeing clear results.” 1415337289798979587 Five of HendrickCars.com’s six highest-traffic days of the year have been attributed to its sponsorship of the No. 5 team, including four Cup Series race days when Larson led the most laps or won. In February, the reveal of the HendrickCars.com paint scheme drove the site’s highest one-day visitor count in more than 12 months. Since then, it has seen significant increases in overall traffic (up 27%), vehicle sales leads (up 18%), digital retail leads (up 37%) and trade evaluations (up 61%). “More website traffic generates more sales leads, which ultimately help us sell more cars,” said Darryl Jackson, vice president of financial services for Hendrick Automotive Group. “Kyle’s performance on the track has delivered a measurable business return for us. The company is on pace for a record year in 2021, and we certainly see our motor sports programs contributing to that success. Racing is in our DNA, and tapping into the passionate fanbases of NASCAR, the NHRA and now Kyle’s grassroots program is both very effective and a perfect fit for who we are.” HendrickCars.com, which will also be Larson’s primary sponsor in 10 of the 15 remaining Cup Series races of 2021, is the easiest way to shop thousands of new and pre-owned cars, trucks and SUVs. Customers can use the site to locate the nearest Hendrick Automotive Group dealership, schedule maintenance and learn about Hendrick Autoguard, the company’s industry-leading vehicle protection program. Visitors can also learn about career opportunities at Hendrick Automotive Group, which is currently in need of more than 300 service technicians. “The chance to extend my contract with Hendrick Motorsports and have such an awesome sponsor in HendrickCars.com are things I don’t take for granted,” Larson said. “I feel like I’m driving for the best team and the best sponsors in the sport. To know that our on-track performance is having positive business influence off the track is very important because I want to return the incredible support they’ve given me. Everyone at Hendrick Automotive Group has made me feel like part of their team, and it’s exciting to be able to represent a company that loves racing like I do. I feel like we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible.” In his first season with Hendrick Motorsports, Larson leads the NASCAR Cup Series in wins (four) and is currently the projected No. 1 seed for the 2021 playoffs. After just 21 of 36 races, the driver has already set personal single-season records for laps led (1,441) and stage wins (12). He won the June 13 NASCAR All-Star Race and has finished first or second in nine points races this year. In addition, the driver launched the non-profit Kyle Larson Foundation in March while keeping a busy racing schedule at short tracks across the country with 10 non-NASCAR victories. “It’s been a big year for Kyle,” Hendrick said. “His talent inside the race car has been on full display, and he’s doing amazing things through his foundation and with our partners. I’m proud of his hard work and look forward to having him on our team for many years to come.” HendrickCars.com joins Valvoline, which has three primary sponsorship races with the No. 5 team, to fill out Larson’s full 38-event NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2022. Valvoline is the Official Lubricants Partner of Hendrick Motorsports.

  • NASCAR '21 Confirmed

It is the moment we have all been waiting for. Motorsport Games has officially announced NASCAR '21. The team also announced the game will come with physics similar to that of rFactor 2 from Studio 397, which was acquired by Motorsport Games earlier this year. Perhaps the biggest announcement coming today was that NASCAR '21 will be equipped with a paint booth. The fully customizable paint booth is the most asked-for feature from the NASCAR gaming community and Motorsport Games is delivering on that promise. The official release date for the game has not yet been announced but Motorsport Games did say that more information will be coming very soon.

  • 30 Second Read: Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart

(Kurt Busch celebrates in Victory Lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway) https://twitter.com/NASCAR/status/1414386956151267330?s=20 Kurt Busch edged little brother Kyle Busch for his first win of the year at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In a tight battle of back and forth and a little bit of "shake and bake" with teammate Ross Chastain in the closing laps, the Chip Ganassi driver would finish first in a 1-2 finish over his brother Kyle for the first time since Kentucky in 2019. Chase Elliott would start on the pole with Kyle Busch in second, it would only take fourteen laps for Ky. Busch to assume the lead over Elliott. A multi-car wreck would take place involving Daniel Suarez, Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Cody Ware almost halfway through stage one. The 18 car of Busch would be the winner of stage one with older brother Kurt right behind him. Elliott would experience difficulties on pit road as he would fall back in the field after miss judging the pit box and sliding over the line being forced to back up in stage one and in stage two under caution, the 9 car of Elliott would hit a tire from Cole Custer mid stop that would hit Custer's tire changer. Thankfully he was uninjured and was able to finish the remaining stops throughout the day. On the flip side from stage one, Kurt Busch would pick up the stage win with Kyle finishing in second. Shortly after the start of the final stage at Atlanta Motor Speedway, a pothole would form on the front stretch as pieces of asphalt would break apart bringing out the caution. A crazy restart ensued with 90 laps remaining as drivers going three and four wide jockeying for position, after spreading out over several laps, it was down to the Busch brothers battling it out each lap for the lead. With a little bit of help from teammate Ross Chastain, Kurt Busch was able to stay ahead of baby brother Kyle to win his 33rd career victory at the final race of the current configuration of the speedway before a repave and reconfiguration would start a few days after. The win ties Fireball Roberts for 25th on the all time wins list. Quaker State 400 Presented by Walmart Top 5: 1. Kurt Busch 2. Kyle Busch 3. Martin Truex Jr 4. Alex Bowman 5.
